FTEC, Thursday (8/4)

Scully had awoken cranky, but determined. Time to get to the bottom of her transformation!

She stomped off into town, and shot at two teal deer who tried to stop her from going inside the clinic. She took a sample of their blood as they limped away. (And drank some of it, but not from the sample. You had to keep your materials separate to avoid contamination.)

The nurses were staying waaaay on the other side of the Clinic from her, as she worked on her tests.

"Thith ith ridiculuth," she muttered through her just-starting-to-emerge fangs, as she broke yet another beaker. Really, those things didn't grow on trees!

Then she was absorbed in Science again.

Karla should know, she had a close-up and personal meeting with a beastie before heading into town. Thank the Darkness for shields.

"That would match the bloodwork I have," Scully said, eyes on the fly. Buuuzzzz. "It's less that it's fighting the cells than it is changing them into itself. Our immune systems can't cope with it, because it's already changed those too."

Buzz.

GRAB. NOM NOM NOM NOM...

"...I meant to do that." She paused. "The mental component doesn't help."

Karla was making a very eloquent disgusted face, oh yes.

"Umm, you sure about that?" she asked. "The eating the fly thing, not the not-helping."

Cause Karla had kind of gotten that part.

Scully rubbed her face. "I used to do that as a joke, pretend to eat a bug to gross out Mulder. This wasn't... quite as voluntary." She grimaced, which looked horrible on her. "In any event. It's the same thing the deer have, because I took samples from them this morning."

Please, please don't ask how. Please.

Karla knew better than to ask that anyway. "Dana, I hate to ask but...are you becoming a danger? To our patients?" She was invoking them deliberately, yes. "The more you act on impulse, the harder it is to control. And I don't really like the way your impulses are trending."

Scully scowled, then took a breath, really trying to analyze herself not as a specimen, but as a doctor, and had to make an unhappy sound. "If not from me attacking them for whatever demented reason-- I'm not cognizant enough to stop myself from infecting other people accidentally," she finally admitted. "I'm too easily distracted by my research. I could expose someone to the pathogen while trying to treat them, and... I don't have the self-control to even realize I'm aggressive right now."

"Then what do you think we should do about that?" Karla asked. She didn't want to just restrain Scully out of hand. That might set her off again.
