Scully had awoken cranky, but determined. Time to get to the bottom of her transformation!

She stomped off into town, and shot at two teal deer who tried to stop her from going inside the clinic. She took a sample of their blood as they limped away. (And drank some of it, but not from the sample. You had to keep your materials separate to avoid contamination.)

The nurses were staying waaaay on the other side of the Clinic from her, as she worked on her tests.

"Thith ith ridiculuth," she muttered through her just-starting-to-emerge fangs, as she broke yet another beaker. Really, those things didn't grow on trees!

Then she was absorbed in Science again.

"I can hear her," Toby explained, eyes taking on that glazed listening-to-something-far-away look once again. "And everyone else."

Right right, Toby had that whole thing going on. He winced and turned back to glance at...what he thought might have been a human. She wasn't looking too good right now.

"I'm not gonna let her drink your blood," Sam told him, feeling helpless for what he had to do now. "And stop looking like that. Toby. Focus."

"I am focusing!" On too many things, unfortunately not all of them were in this room.

"Don't make me punch you in the head. I don't like punching people and it'd hurt my hand," Sam said, about halfway serious with his threat. "Calm down. There's gotta be another doctor or something on staff that can check you out who won't make a milkshake out of your blood."

"You try being calm when you're turning grey," Toby grumbled. Oh yeah, now he was choosing to acknowledge that was a problem.

"Better than hot pink," Sam quipped, turning away from Scully to face Toby. "Lemme see where you're gray. Maybe it's like when you get a sunburn and it scrapes off after awhile."

Toby rolled up one of the long sleeves of his shirt, showing off an arm that was now almost completely grey and scaly. "Lovely, isn't it?" he said.

Scully finally ~~apologizing for the delay, guys~~ came over to the two guys, nodding at Toby. "Hi. What are you guys here for? Are you feeling okay? And can I have some of your blood?" For testing, TOBY. She'd gotten a Sprite, a little while ago.

"Not if you're gonna drink it," Toby said suspiciously, taking a step back.

"I'm not thirsty any more," Scully said abstractedly. Then, "But I'd share if you wanted thome of mine. Ith's sthilver! Well. Opal." She frowned and poked at one her fangs. "Annoying."

"I dont want any of your blood," Toby made a face. "When'd you get those?" he demanded accusingly. She hadn't always had fangs, he would've noticed that before.

"Thith-- I mean this morning." She held out her arm to compare it to his. "I first saw small gray patches on Tuesday; I felt like death warmed over and had much larger patches yesterday. Today, my eyes are black, I have almost-fangs, and remnants of a vestigial tail." Look what you have to look forward to, Toby! "And if you give me your blood, I can see if your case is the same or as advanced as mine!" Super, hunh?

"...why do sound like you're all happy about this?" Sam asked, trying to keep himself between Scully and Toby so no one tried to drink blood or anything gross like that. "This is like the worst case of the flu ever."

[And sorry for my delay, I had to woooork again!]

"I don't want to grow a tail," Toby scowled. "I like not having a tail."

"You're not gonna grow a tail," Sam said, glancing back at him. "Stop expecting the worst, man. Maybe this'll all go away in a few hours. Allergic reaction or something."

"That's what I thought yesterday," Toby said. "Figured it'd be gone by morning. It wasn't gone. Just got worse."

"It's medically unique," Scully answered Sam earnestly. She frowned at Toby. "And if I can look at your blood, I can actually determine if you have the same thing or not." How hard was that?

"Swear you won't drink it?"

"Promithe!" Scully held up three fingers, and sighed. "Not thirsty. Working on the control thing." She held up the needle. "You can watcth. Roll up your sleeve."

"Fine, fine," he grumbled, doing as she asked. "No funny business..." he trailed off, expression going blank again as someone else's thoughts caught his attention.

Scully carefully extracted his blood, and then stared as he remained zoned out. "Toby?" She snapped her fingers at him. "You in there?"

"She shouldn't have done that," Toby murmured. "Gonna leave a mark."

Scully watched him curiously as she prepped the slide. "Who did what now?" She leaned over and poked him with a pointy finger. "Details!"

Lacking in tact: check.

"I don't think it was very smart to taunt something with teeth as big as fingers," was Toby's terribly helpful explanation.

Euuuurgh. And this reaction is brought to you by someone growing fangs.

"Your cells are mutating," Scully said thoughtfully. "And maybe you're getting mentally weird too. Like, well. Me."
