Scully had awoken cranky, but determined. Time to get to the bottom of her transformation!

She stomped off into town, and shot at two teal deer who tried to stop her from going inside the clinic. She took a sample of their blood as they limped away. (And drank some of it, but not from the sample. You had to keep your materials separate to avoid contamination.)

The nurses were staying waaaay on the other side of the Clinic from her, as she worked on her tests.

"Thith ith ridiculuth," she muttered through her just-starting-to-emerge fangs, as she broke yet another beaker. Really, those things didn't grow on trees!

Then she was absorbed in Science again.

Look! Momoko had finally made it to the clinic!

"Professor?!" She approached a bit warily, her tail now long enough to reach the floor, skin now a very deep and definite grey, eyes totally black. "I'm sorry I was absent. Did I miss a tasty class?"

Stark looked at Momoko and winced visibly. "Oh frell."

"No reason to be sorry. We managed without you for today," he said, hoping for a reassuring tone. "Not particularly tasty though." He hadn't eaten more than a bite of his cupcake! This was serious! "Does it hurt?" Pain, at least, he could probably help with.

Momoko had to stop and think a moment. "I'm achey? My face was sore yesterday, but today I was fine until that new girl used a fire extinguisher on me this morning. She's so stupid; why would I want to drink her blood? I barely even know her!"

The fact that things had stopped hurting was actually worrisome.

"Have you been trying to drink anyone's blood?" Stark asked cautiously. He didn't particularly want to have to sedate or tie Momoko down, but if she was going to hurt someone else he couldn't let that happen.

"No! But. Well, okay. It did sound totally good when she said it," Momoko admitted with a sigh.

Then she suddenly looked up at him with frightened eyes... which probably didn't come across so well when they were completely black. "Professor?! I don't know why I just said that! I mean, it's true, but I don't want it to be! I don't want to want to eat my classmates! The thoughts just keep coming into my head that I do! And that I like this! But I don't! But I do!"

"It's good you know you don't really want to eat anyone," Stark said softly. He was good at soothing tones. "Hold on to that. The thing that does, that isn't you. Remember that. Remember you."

He really was! She felt herself calming a little. "I'm trying. But it totally feels like me, like maybe it's the real me and I've been pretending all along to be the other me. Or like when I got my powers and finally could do all the things I dreamed about. Only I never dreamed about any of the things my head is wanting. Or that I wanted to be grey and have a tail!"

"Well, not a scaly grey one. A cute one, like a fox tail would be fine." Her tail flicked, then rose to curl around her leg and rest in her hand. "Except I wouldn't be able to hit and stun things with it as well as I can this one."

"Eh?!" She dropped the tail, flailing.

"I don't think it's the real you. And the real you is still there," he offered. "Grey is not such a bad color though. I had a friend who was grey, and a green one, and a purple one. Well, I still have them. I think. Just not here. And Zhaan was blue. You're not planning on stunning anyone, are you? You don't want to hurt anyone?" He took a step back, just in case.

"Ah!" Momoko stepped forward, claws... HANDS! extended to stop him from running away. "No!" her voice gave away that she was back to panicking again. "I mean, I do want to hurt people... but it's not me. Right? You said it wasn't!"

"It's not," he said firmly. Maybe backing up hadn't been a good plan. "Whatever this is, it's not you. And someone here is going to find a way to help." Stark wished he was certain of that. "This island, everyone on it...that's what happens. Things get better." This far, at least. "I won't let you hurt anyone. I promise." That, at least, he thought he would be able to follow through on.
