FTEC, Thursday (8/4)

Scully had awoken cranky, but determined. Time to get to the bottom of her transformation!

She stomped off into town, and shot at two teal deer who tried to stop her from going inside the clinic. She took a sample of their blood as they limped away. (And drank some of it, but not from the sample. You had to keep your materials separate to avoid contamination.)

The nurses were staying waaaay on the other side of the Clinic from her, as she worked on her tests.

"Thith ith ridiculuth," she muttered through her just-starting-to-emerge fangs, as she broke yet another beaker. Really, those things didn't grow on trees!

Then she was absorbed in Science again.

"It itches," Toby complained, showing her the scales that were slowly overtaking his arms. "And they're all too loud."

"Too loud?" Raven repeated, confused by his meaning. "You are hearing voices? Are they telling you what to do?"

She gently caught Toby's arm in one hand, drawing the infection inside her. She had to try, even if she'd been unsuccessful so far. The scales appeared on her own arm and disappeared from Toby's, but only for a few moments, much to her frustration.

"Voices, yes," Toby nodded, the action of the scales disappearing and then reappearing fascinating enough to draw his attention for a few moments. "They're scared," he shared helpfully, distant look overtaking his face again. "Well, no. Some of them are looking for a fight."

Which had Raven thinking perhaps the infected people had a hivemind, which could make them all the more dangerous. "Is there one voice that is louder than the others?" she asked. "Is it telling you what to do?"

If they could track it back and stop it, then maybe she could finally heal all those we were ill.

Toby had to consider her question carefully. After a moment, he nodded. "It tells me I should be hungry," he imparted to Raven.

Raven rubbed her neck unconsciously. "You should not listen to it," she said. "You must be stronger than it. But perhaps to be safe you should remain here in the clinic."

"I wouldn't drink your blood, you know," he remarked conversationally. "That's just gross."

Raven's cheeks turned pink; she hadn't intended to be that obvious about her fears. "I am pleased you think so," she said. "I do not like vampires."

Between Max and Sebastian she'd had her fill of them.

"Not a vampire," Toby insisted. "Just human," he snickered. "Well, maybe. I think. Not so sure now. Have you always been able to do that?" he asked, gesturing vaguely. "The... healy thing?"

Raven nodded, glad to change the subject. "I am an empath and a healer," she said. "There is little I cannot heal."

And frustratingly, this infection was one of them.

"Except this," Toby pointed out, his voice growing distant again as he listened to something only he could hear.

"I have not been successful so far," Raven said, hating having to admit that. "But we will find a cure. I know we will."
