Scully had awoken cranky, but determined. Time to get to the bottom of her transformation!

She stomped off into town, and shot at two teal deer who tried to stop her from going inside the clinic. She took a sample of their blood as they limped away. (And drank some of it, but not from the sample. You had to keep your materials separate to avoid contamination.)

The nurses were staying waaaay on the other side of the Clinic from her, as she worked on her tests.

"Thith ith ridiculuth," she muttered through her just-starting-to-emerge fangs, as she broke yet another beaker. Really, those things didn't grow on trees!

Then she was absorbed in Science again.

Anakin decided not to swamp poor Scully with another thread approached Karla.

"I HAVE A TAIL TODAY."

It's entirely possible he'd sound that aggressive on a normal day if he'd woken up with a tail.

"Oookay," Karla said, looking up at Anakin and giving him a professional smile. Tail, check. "You're actually the third person today to have told me that. I think that means we can add that to the list of disease-progression."

She made a line next to 'tail' in her notebook and looked back up at him. "Are you in pain anywhere? Itchy? Any abnormal desires?"

Like, say, to feed on the blood of the innocent?

"I wanted to kill Barney, but I'm not sure that's all that weird," Anakin admitted. "And I have claws. And my head hurts."

"I can try to treat the headache, but I'm not sure it would work," Karla admitted. "Nothing we've tried has been able to treat this thing. We're kind of at the point where we're keeping track of what's happening and making sure no one gets hurt."

Hurt themselves or someone else, specifically.

"Do you mind if I look you over with Craft? And draw some blood for a sample?"

"Go ahead," Anakin said. "I was looking for a place where I could lay down and try some Jedi healing meditations, too. They seemed to slow things down a bit, but it took a lot of effort, like I'm going a cell at a time."

"That's what it felt like when I was trying to Heal Warren," Karla said softly, her 'professional Healer' mask flickering a moment. "Like I was scrubbing each individual cell. Except as I moved on, the infection would just come back and attack the one's I'd cleaned first."

She led Anakin back to an examination room and added a fresh layer of paper to the bed. "So far, simple contact with the infected doesn't seem to be spreading the disease, but that's not to say we shouldn't be careful."

Anakin nodded. "No reason to get the healers sick as well." He glanced backward. "Other than Scully, who should probably get strapped down into bed pretty soon too."

Karla glanced over to Scully and nodded. "I've already been thinking about contingency plans. She's getting a little...excitable. And that's the last thing we need."

"Tranquilizers," Anakin advised. "Or a stun gun."

Karla looked up at Anakin and said quietly, "We might need to do that to everyone one who's infected," she said. "Depending on how much it begins to affect their minds."

"Sooner than later," Anakin said. "While you can still rationalize with us."

She glanced at the restraints the clinic had. She wasn't sure if they could hold Anakin now, never mind if he started displaying increased strength or stamina as the illness progressed.

"Do you object?" she asked. "And if not, do you have any ideas that will be comfortable for you now?"

...That would also be useful later?

"I don't object," Anakin said, holding his arms out, "but I'm not sure how well they'll do if I decide to be somewhere else."

"If you decide to be somewhere else, I don't think we have much that can stop you," Karla admitted, beginning to fasten the restraints.

Yeah, that didn't feel weird or anything, sure. "It might be better if you feel yourself slipping to just have you run off into the Preserve or something."

Karla was not liking her odds of taking down an insane Anakin Skywalker, thanks.

Anakin nodded. "I'd thought of that," he said. "It's another reason for coming here and going into a Jedi healing trance. It looks a little like a coma--my breathing will slow down as well, and if someone ran into that and I was just in my office, they might panic."

"Do you think you can stay in that Healing trance throughout this whole thing?" Karla asked, making sure the restraints were as tight as they could be while remaining comfortable. "Because that would be awfully convenient."

And, you know, that was important right now. Convenience.

"Of course I can."

"I can give you something to help you sleep," Karla offered. "That might assist your trance."

"That would be good," Anakin said, with a grateful smile.

Ignore just what that did to a face full of pointy teeth now.
