FTEC -- Monday [October 11]

Maybe it had be weird of her to stay behind? But really, Ino was quite happy to wander into work that morning and take her customary place at the front desk. She highly doubted that there'd be anyone who'd need her attention, but…

That was alright. Despite the way that the nurses glanced askance at her. She knew herself well enough, after all, to know that she tended to get bored after a day or two of vacation and besides, Zack was here which really made the whole point of going on vacation without him seem utterly ridiculous and insane.

So, she settled in at the desk, still working on her homework from Professor Devereaux—even if the Professor wasn't teaching this semester; that was just a detail she was ignoring.

Unlike all the details she'd been told quite firmly that she wasn't allowed to ignore any longer.

"I'd have the monsters there to keep me company!"

You know. The way that monsters tended to do. Which usually involved a good bit of being snapped at. Or lit on fire.

Thank the gods for mastered Elemental Ward materia.

"And such good company they are, right?" she shook her head, a bit ruefully. "You stickin' 'round here 'till you gotta go?"

"If you don't mind my hanging around," Zack replied, smiling and shrugging a little. "I don't want to be in the way at all, but I figured it would probably be pretty quiet here, what with almost everybody being off-island, and all."

"You ain't in the way," she promised him, smiling a little more. "Actually, I was workin' on somethin' that needs your input anyway."

Ooh! Input! Zack could totally manage that!

"Oh, yeah?" He leaned forward a little, bumping his forehead against hers. "What kind of input would that be?"

See, now he was distracting her. She closed her eyes and smiled.

"'Bout your very favourite airhead on Midgar."

Fortunately, Zack didn't know many Midgar-based airheads!

"What, you, when you get all weird around there?"

"One and the same," she said, huffing a bit of a laugh. "You know many airheads or somethin' who can count as your favourite?"

"Well, no," Zack confessed, "but I don't usually think of you as one, either."

... He thought that was a pretty good save, actually.

Point. She'd give him that one.

"Good," she said, leaning over to steal a quick kiss. "Professor Devereaux told me I gotta expand my airheadedness into a real character."

"A real character?" Zack? Zack was now blinking, his lips still pursed slightly after that kiss. "Like, from a movie or something?"

... There was a reason that Zack was in SOLDIER and not the Turks. Subtlety and sneakiness were not his forte.

Don't laugh in his face Ino.

Just... don't.

"Make her more 'real'," Ino said, picking her words carefully. "So that if she gets questioned, or in hot water, or even just talked to by someone unexpected I got something to fall back on other than a momentary scramble of panic."

"Oooooh." He chewed his lip thoughtfully for a moment, tilting his head. "Do you know where you want to go with that, yet?"

"I'm not sure," she confessed, a bit sheepishly. "And it's not just my decision either, you know? You get a say too 'cause you're the one everyone thinks is datin' her."

Oooh wow. Ino wanted Zack to have a hand in the ruse? Really? His eyes went a little wide at the thought.

"You actually trust me with that kind of thing?" He'd just asked about movie characters, here!

"I'll be doin' most of it," she said, both a reassurance and a--caution. "But I can't make her be someone you'd hate, you know?"

"You'd have to be trying really, really hard to be someone I'd hate," Zack replied, because... Because he knew himself, okay?

There were not many people out there that Zack didn't like.

"Okay," she said, laughing a little at that. "How 'bout someone you'd love?"

"You'd have to be Ino," he replied, not missing a beat.

She flushed. Okay, that was... well, that was more than nice--

That was pretty fantastic to hear really.

"Thank you," she murmured, stealing another one of those kisses there. That statement deserved kisses.

Even if it wasn't helpful.

Helpful and sweet often were not in the same zip code as one another, sadly. But if sweet won him kisses, then helpfulness could wait a moment!

The Zack worked in mysterious ways!

Kind of.

"You're welcome, Ino."

She smiled at him gently. "Is there anything you don't want your fake-girlfriend to do?"

"You mean, my real girlfriend, just acting like someone else?"

He had to check to be sure, here, because he was suddenly struck with the inexplicable fear that while they were in Midgar, she was somehow temporarily not his girlfriend, just so that she could pretend to be a different person who happened to be his girlfriend.

It didn't make sense, no. Did it really have to?

Ino's first inclination was to laugh at that question, but she glanced at him and her eyes gentled.

"That's exactly it," she said, reaching out to kidnap one of his hands. "I'm always yours, after all."

Awwww. Okay, he was going to pull her into a squashy sort of hug, now. After all, you only needed one free arm for stuff like that!

"Okay then," he replied. "If that's the case, do I get to veto the laugh?"

... Well, if you'd heard that laugh, you'd veto it, too.
