FTEC -- Monday [October 11]

Maybe it had be weird of her to stay behind? But really, Ino was quite happy to wander into work that morning and take her customary place at the front desk. She highly doubted that there'd be anyone who'd need her attention, but…

That was alright. Despite the way that the nurses glanced askance at her. She knew herself well enough, after all, to know that she tended to get bored after a day or two of vacation and besides, Zack was here which really made the whole point of going on vacation without him seem utterly ridiculous and insane.

So, she settled in at the desk, still working on her homework from Professor Devereaux—even if the Professor wasn't teaching this semester; that was just a detail she was ignoring.

Unlike all the details she'd been told quite firmly that she wasn't allowed to ignore any longer.

Where Ino is.

Maaan, the island was quiet today, wasn't it? Zack really hadn't been able to help but notice that much, which had led to him picking up his PHS and poking through his mission list out of curiosity. There was a 3rd class guy who had been having some trouble with missions lately, and he figured that maybe he could lend a hand.

... Okay, he'd been all but guilted into it.

"Heya, Ino!"

Ino blinked up from her very important notebooks and beamed at Zack.

"Hi!" she chirped, closing her notebook. "You bored enough to come an' visit me?"

Not that she was complaining, no.

"Oh, this isn't boredom," Zack protested, laughing a little. "Boredom was what had me poking at my phone this morning, looking for work. This is totally just me here to shamelessly ask for kisses."

So there. There was totally a difference!

"Since when do you have to ask?" she giggled, and see now she was just going to have to get out of her chair and wander around the desk to go and give those kisses.

Mmmm kisses.

They were niiiice. Zack grinned down at her after helping himself to a few of those kisses, wrapping his arms around her waist.

"Not in a while," he confessed, "but sometimes it's nice to think I've earned them somehow."

He worked hard for those kisses, darn it!

She snuggled into him. Mmmm Zack hugs.

"Does this mean you want me to make it harder for you to get kisses?" she asked archly. "I can arrange that."

"You could," Zack laughed, "but then you'd be without, too. At least until one of us cracked, I guess."

Weren't the hugs so much nicer when nobody had to go out of their way to earn them, anyhow?

"Can I ask for a few more kisses for the road?"

Ino eyed him. "When're you leaving?"

That... wasn't her idea of fun, no. But he was--clearly not inviting her along, there.

"Tonight or tomorrow," Zack replied. "Probably tonight. There's a rookie back in Midgar who's been having trouble with his missions, and I have to make sure that he isn't throwing himself headfirst into hot water."

Which, naturally, he was. Inspired by Zack's heroics and with no real experience of his own. Zack was maybe feeling a little guilty about that.

Don't sulk, Ino. Don't sulk.

Though he still hadn't gotten those kisses, which was indicative of a sulk on its own, even though she was smiling still.

"Poor rookie," she said, shaking her head and pulling away from him. "You'll put him straight, I know it."

"I hope so," Zack sighed. "The last time I tried to help him out, he said he was going to just write home to his parents about how cold and unfeeling life is in the big city."

This guy kind of had Zack wrapped around his finger. He pouted a bit, himself.

Ino? Ino was resisting the urge to roll her eyes.

"You are so easy," she sighed.

"I know," Zack sighed. At least he wasn't afraid to admit it, right? "But it's not really like we can afford to lose any men, either. There aren't nearly enough SOLDIERs to go around, you know?"

... Which totally explained exactly why he couldn't get any work of his own without having to put up a fight, sure!

"I know," she replied, flopping back down in her chair and fixing a blue-eyed gaze on him. "And you'd help, I bet, even without that."

That got a small twitch of a smile out of him, right there.

"You're right, I probably would. You don't just join SOLDIER unless you want to. And I don't really want to see people just up and quitting on their dreams, just because things got a little rough."

Dreams were... kind of important.

She nodded slowly.

"Do you know how long you'll be gone?"

See? Totally going to be mature about it.

"Only a day or two," Zack replied, shrugging. "The missions that they send 3rds on are... Not really that difficult."

To say the least. He was a 1st, after all. If they gave him trouble, then what was SOLDIER coming to?

"You say that now," she said, smirking slightly. "But watch you get in hot water 'bout it."

Zack couldn't help but laugh at that, shaking his head a little.

"It's mostly haywire mechs and things like that, that 3rds get sent on. Nothing that a Thundara can't handle, at least." And he had plenty of potions! "But if I do find myself in over my head, I'll call you, so that you can laugh at me."

"You'd better," she informed him. "How else am I supposed to get my fun in?"

"I could let you gerbil-sit," Zack offered.

His face was the very picture of innocence, truly.

With nurses, who're convinced that Ino is insane for skipping a paid vacation, yeah.
