FTEC -- Saturday, March 01 -- Day Shift.

Adah had to admit to feeling a little surprised when she limped into the clinic today for her shift. She also have to admit to feeling a little disappointed that the report didn't offer anything that severe or interesting. Most of these symptoms were daily fashion in Africa.

She also also had to admit that she wasn't too sure about that dog being here. It didn't seem to be the most hygienic thing in the world. Then again, though, if she was making African comparisons, she might as well put a lab coat on him and make him one of the nurses, for all it was worth up against the sort of things that might be walking through those clinics.

If Cameron had known about Adah's reservations, he would probably have pointed out that he'd rather not be in the clinic either. Though, he wasn't sure where he would want to be. Going with Sam was appealing, but he didn't want to be a burden.

Sam took advantage of a surprise two hours of player availability snuck in at some point of the morning, carrying a large cup of coffee and a muffin for herself and what looked like another large cup of a beverage and bag of pastries. She peeked her head in to see if Cameron was awake.

He was and apparently had been for a while as one of the DVDs Katara had brought him the previous evening was playing. Not that the whole concentrating part was working well and he'd lost track of where the movie was going after fifteen minutes.

Ray was immediately up and trying to see if maybe there was a pastry for him in that bag. "Hey, Sam."

"Hey." She set the one of the cups and the bag down on the table next to Cameron, then reached down to scratch Ray between the ears. "If you're going to be spoiled, that's up to Cam, Ray."

She glanced over at Cameron and set her own bag on the table before sitting in the chair by the bed and sipping at her coffee. "How're you feeling?"

"Bored," he tried because it was the easiest answer. "And starting to feel spoiled myself."

"Well, maybe you could use a little spoiling," she decided, not really buying his response. "I brought fat, sugar, and milk in assorted forms. Help yourself."

"Well if you want to buy my favour with food, it might just work," he teased and it came a lot easier than it had when they had talked yesterday. Whether it was a good thing was still up for debate.

He reached for a pastry and found Ray watching him with big eyes. With a sigh, he tore off a piece and offered it to the dog.

"I don't want to buy your favor, Cameron," she rolled her eyes and wondered if it was too early in his recovery to poke him. "I just thought you might be getting tired of infirm-er, clinic food."

And from the door there was certain mutant giving Cam a concerned look.

"Heard you were back in town," Jamie said carefully. "If I had known you were coming I'd have baked you a cake in the form of a stickbug."

It was either the new visitor part or the cake part that made Ray pad over to greet Jamie enthusiastically.

Cameron grinned. "I would have liked that. Next time I'll be sure to call ahead. Hey, Jamie."

"Hey pooch," Jamie said holding out his hand to Ray before turning his attention to Cam. "So what happened to you, man? Last I heard you were going all Air Force and then you dropped off the face of the planet."

Ray sniffled Jamie's hand, though he seemed kind of sad that there wasn't any candy to get from him.

"Yeah," Cameron grimaced. "The island decided to disappear for a few years. For me anyway. I guess that's why I couldn't get to it."

Jamie winced as he crouched down to scratch Ray behind the ears. "I heard about that happening. Pretty sure it's happened to a few of my dupes as well," he said sympathetically. "Though I doubt the lack of island is why you are in the clinic."

"It could be the shock?" Cameron suggested, half joking. He was getting good at it.

"Doesn't explain why you look like hell, undernourished and like you've aged six years in the span of two," Jamie said carefully. "Though if you don't want to go into it..."

Every so often, Adah drifted in to see how the patient was doing, though mostly silently, making notes on her clipboard. She figured that since he was conscious if he did need anything beyond what was obvious in tending to him, he'd say something. Having conscious patients. How novel.

Conscious and slightly ansty patients. Especially when things went quiet. "Hey," he greeted when Adah drifted in and he wasn't trying to pretend to sleep. "Are you a student?"

Adah, with a slight drifting of her attention to the side as she took a moment to decide how annoyed to be about chatty patients today (yes, she was considering this chatty), mostly kept her attention on checking his vitals and nutritional input when he spoke.

Eventually, though, she did give a small, short nod.

Cameron nodded and he did consider letting her be, but he was bored and did he mention that he hated the quiet. "I went there too... Last year. What year are you in?"

Adah drew in a slight breath, holding it as she jotted down that everything was progressing well, as normal, a-okay, with a slight urge to jot down in the notes section talks too much.

"Senior," she answered.
