FTEC, Wednesday, Evening Shift [Nov 21]

It was a rather happy Ronan who made his way into the clinic on Wednesday evening, setting his backpack behind the desk. He frowned to see that they still had Adah in as a patient, making sure to check on her and see how she was doing.

But other than that? Definitely a happy Ronan.

Isabel was pretty sure this was going to have to be a quick visit since she needed to finish getting packed and she still wasn't sure exactly when they were going. But after how she'd spent part of last Wednesday night, she wanted to come by just to prove that things were back to normal.

After a stop at the Perk, she made her way to the clinic and stepped inside. "Evening!"

"And a good evening to you to as well. It's nice to see you to," Isabel teased. "My day's been pretty nice. Thank you for asking."

She set the drinks on the counter then pulled over a chair and made herself comfortable. "A date? With who? Anyone special?"

Isabel fixed her own drink with a generous splash of Tabasco and lifted it in a toast. "Congratulations. I'm both impressed and incredibly happy for you. And should you need a sous chef to assist with the cooking, you know I'm there for you."

"Because you work both quickly and apparently smoothly?" she answered, taking a sip of hot chocolate. "And I mean that in the very best of ways. Of course now I'm a bit disappointed I can try to play matchmaker any more then I have."

Isabel couldn't help laughing. "I'm not going to disagree with you. At all. He's very cute. He's also a very nice guy. Just like you. Which is what I told him class on Monday."

"Very, very mildly," she grinned, amused by Ronan's reaction. "Why wouldn't I? He's a friend. You're a friend. You're both single?"

The blushing was too adorable and one more reason why Isabel thought they'd be good for one another. "Not a problem. At all. I hope it works out. I'd like to see you both happy."

It has been, as she sat with idle blinking and slight movements toward sounds, a day of colors for Adah. Blurry at first, nearly inconsequential, but, as day passed and the light of it receded into the quiet darkness, which seemed to make the beeping of the machines attached to her echo more, they began to slash. What seemed dull before now seemed too bright; shadows seemed to shift in ways that confused her, seemingly too deep to exist. Most importantly, amid the confusion of the slashing colors, Adah Price began to feel pain. A little bit, at first, a dull tugging at the back of her head that seemed to spread, seemed to grow more intense, until the colors disappeared and all there was was the pain, built up on itself, waiting in her dormant inactivity for just the right moment of awareness to rush in.

She closed her eyes tightly; she was able to get her teeth to clench slightly but that was the only movement she could manage, it would seem, although the urge for more, to release the pain, was strong. A slow sound, a whimper, started to emerge as confused panic started to accompany the pain. In the midsts of everything, the her breathing became erratic and unsteady, in sharp contrast to the mechanisism attached to her to maintain a pace; it felt that, instead of assisting her, the slower respirator was suffocating her and the panic sharpened. A desperate sound now, trying to call out but unable as she tried to will her atrophied limbs to remove the obstruction. Panic. Confusion. Pain. And all she could do was call out, to avoid being completely swallowed up by it.

Considering that Adah's body rarely listened even to itself, especially when it was important, it certainly wasn't going to start listening to the babbling of some wizard. It wasn't even listening to Adah herself, as her panic spiked again over help being readily available but having no way to communicate what she needed besides and wide-eyed, intense stare that she simply hoped could somehow be interpreted. Still trying to will herself to remove her mask, still with her body laying limp and unresponsive. And it hurt. If it could feel pain, why couldn't it feel sensors going from her brain, telling it to move. She drew in a deep, gulping breath, trying to fight off the feeling of suffocating, though she was only making it worse.

The moment that the Obstruction that Wasn't was removed, Adah's head tilted back and she drew in a deep, deep breath, rasping sharply in her throat before culminating into a slightly hacking cough. It brought tears to her eyes, the way her body was reacting so harshly and then, finally, too late, as if intentionally not allowing it until now, she felt the ability in the fingers on her left hand to move, to clench into the bed beneath her as she fought to control her breaths, looking toward Ronan with wildly confused eyes. She was settling down rapidly now, though, although she was horribly shaken and still didn't know which way was up, down, or what was what.

Shaking slightly as she wrangled her breathing to a slower pace, Adah just stared at Ronan, barely blinking except at long intervals where it became almost necessarily because the widened gaze left them dried, and the twitching in the corner of the left from the pain of her neurons firing back into action didn't help either. Words. She was hearing words, almost recognized that as words instead of just sounds, but she couldn't make sense of them, it was all gibberish, although it felt like she should understand them. The breathing staggered momentarily before settling again, after a small, confused whimper.
