FTEC - Saturday Evening [12/2]

After a close call on his way from the apartment down to the clinic, Wilson came dashing into the clinic sans his usual latte.

Somehow stopping at the Perk seemed like an unwise idea.

Moving quickly through the door, Wilson tossed his satchal behind the desk and moved swiftly through the back halls of the clinic to see if anyone had been dropped off already and baring that, if they were stocked up.

"Large, mean beings...I almost would have rather had the zombies, at least they moved slowly." He muttered.

"It's not uncommon for people who've been through something frightening, or painful, to not completely deal with it at the time," Susan explained carefully. "It's a way the mind has of getting you through a bad experience, in order to let you survive it. To think about it in pieces, a little at a time." Not the best explanation, but she didn't want to strain the language barrier as well as Nadia's psychiatric understanding. "So it feels like it's happening, still happening to you, later. In my time, they called it shell-shock. It's most common in soldiers. An accumulation of experiences that haven't been fully realized show up in other ways." After a moment, she asked, "Do you understand?"
nadiathesaint: (what?)

Nadia nodded slowly. "Um. No. You mean it keeps happening?"

Susan smiled a little. "No, but it feels like it. Flashbacks are not uncommon about the traumatic event. Where it feels like you're re-experiencing it. Nightmares. Panic attacks. Some of it may seem not to have a cause. Some of it set off by events that remind you of what happened." She studied Nadia, then gently asked, "Does any of this seem familiar to you?"
nadiathesaint: (worried)

Nadia tried to pull her jacket even tighter around herself, again considering trying to deny it.

It didn't really feel worth it, though.

"Nightmares, definitely."

Susan watched the girl closely, noting her defensive movements. "If you don't want to talk about this with me, that's okay, Nadia. But I think you're entitled to help with this, if not from me, from someone else who understands. You deserve the chance to rest, to think about how what's happened to you recently, and learn methods to cope with it, now that it's over." After a moment, she gently added, "This isn't the kind of thing that goes away on its own. Not often. And you don't have to be alone while you deal with it."
nadiathesaint: (worried)

Nadia sat silently for a long moment, thinking all of that over.

She still didn't know what to think.

Had she really thought the things at the school were the men from the boat? If she did, could Dr. Pevensie really help her keep that from happening again?

"I'll . . . I have to think about it."

"That's all I ask." Susan smiled at Marty, then said, "I'll let myself out. My office hours are the same as school hours during the week, if you want to find me. And I'll leave my number at the front desk." She stood, studying Nadia a moment before moving toward the door. "I hope your shoulder feels better soon."
nadiathesaint: (you don't know me)

"Thank you." Nadia watched her go, for a moment, then slowly pushed herself off the bed. When Marty looked up, she adjusted her jacket over her injured shoulder. "Let's go home, now."
