FTEC, Wednesday day shift

Tommy was up.

Well, 'up' was a very broad definition involving a great deal of coffee, J,GOB donuts, and Tommy being even grumpier than usual, but he was awake and that's what counted.

Angel woke up as she came in. As soon as he saw who it was he tried to push all the pain behind a stoic mask. "Hey, Veronica."

Veronica noticed that Angel didn't seem to be doing as well as he had been the day before.

"Hey," she said with a small smile. "Feeling okay?"

"Been getting a lot of sleep," he said, by way of an answer. "How're you doing?"

"Sleep is good," she responded, noting his avoidance of her question. "I'm fine. I come bearing gifts," she said, showing him the box.

Angel tried to sit up. "For me?"

"You don't have to sit up," she said. "I can hand you stuff."

"I got it," Angel said, but in reality he hadn't really moved much. A quick flicker of emotion on his face indicated he hoped they could ignore that. "Stuff? Plural?"

She ignored his failed attempt to sit up and started to worry that he seemed to be backsliding a little.

But she smiled and pulled out a stuffed animal (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/7156.html?thread=703732#t703732) to hand to him.

Angel snickered. "Nice beard. Where'd you get it?"

"It was part of the care package that was delivered to me this morning from the folks in the UK," she told him. "I think the handwriting on that note is Angela's."

She pulled out two stuffed dogs (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/7156.html?thread=705012#t705012) and a note from Rory. "I hope there's still room for you in your bed by the time we're done," she joked.

Angel chuckled, especially when he saw the ears on the Vladdie dog. "Sean's gonna love those, bet you anything."

"He'll probably think they're either new friends or new chew toys," she said with a grin.

She pulled out a box (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/7156.html?thread=707316#t707316) next and tried, unsuccessfully, not to wrinkle her nose.

She frowned. "Do you want something now? Or do you want to see what else is in the box?"

"Not hungry," Angel said. He motioned towards the box. "'sides, I wanna see."

"All right," she said. "But you're eating when we're done, whether or not you're hungry."

She pulled out a skirt (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/7156.html?thread=710132#t710132) and blinked, handing Angel the accompanying note.

She chuckled at the image that popped in her head of Angel actually wearing the skirt. "Oh totally," she assured him.

Angel unfolded the card. He suddenly felt as though he was encased inside a group hug, like two sets of arms, one belonging to Willow and the other to - Xander?? - were hugging him tight and silently hoping that he'd be okay.

Well, that latter emotion mostly came from the first set of invisible arms, but still.

Angel read the note. "Huh."

Veronica blinked at Angel's reaction to the card.

"Nice," Angel said. He put it with the hat Molly had given him. "If I start feeling cold I'll be set."

Since he was currently feeling hot when by all rights a vampire wasn't supposed to, Angel didn't rule out feeling cold as a possibility.
