Tommy was up.

Well, 'up' was a very broad definition involving a great deal of coffee, J,GOB donuts, and Tommy being even grumpier than usual, but he was awake and that's what counted.

She frowned. "Do you want something now? Or do you want to see what else is in the box?"

"Not hungry," Angel said. He motioned towards the box. "'sides, I wanna see."

"All right," she said. "But you're eating when we're done, whether or not you're hungry."

She pulled out a skirt (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/7156.html?thread=710132#t710132) and blinked, handing Angel the accompanying note.

Angel laid it out across his lap. "Whaddya think? My color?"

She chuckled at the image that popped in her head of Angel actually wearing the skirt. "Oh totally," she assured him.

Angel unfolded the card. He suddenly felt as though he was encased inside a group hug, like two sets of arms, one belonging to Willow and the other to - Xander?? - were hugging him tight and silently hoping that he'd be okay.

Well, that latter emotion mostly came from the first set of invisible arms, but still.

Angel read the note. "Huh."

Veronica blinked at Angel's reaction to the card.

"Nice," Angel said. He put it with the hat Molly had given him. "If I start feeling cold I'll be set."

Since he was currently feeling hot when by all rights a vampire wasn't supposed to, Angel didn't rule out feeling cold as a possibility.

"Or, at the very least, you'll be quite stylish," she said, hoping that he didn't start feeling cold, because that could only be bad.

She reached into the almost empty box and pulled out some candy (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/7156.html?thread=771828#t771828).

Angel looked it over. He was barely managing blood right now so he didn't think he could try candy. But the magic of it was, in fact, neat.

He held up a chocolate frog to Veronica. "Want one?"

"No thanks," she said with a smile.

"Okay, I saved the best for last," she said, pulling out the gift, note and stack of pictures (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/7156.html?thread=762100#t762100) from Parker.

Angel looked through it all. He grew very quiet. Ultimately he was speechless. Given that this was Angel that didn't sound so impressive, but anyone who could see the look on his face wouldn've known how much this touched him.

Veronica smiled softly.

"Want me to put everything back in the box?" she asked.

Angel blinked rapidly. He silently nodded, then cleared his throat. When he spoke his voice was husky. "Um, yeah. Thank you."

He cleared his throat again. "Can I ask you a favor?"

"Sure, what's up?" she asked, as she gathered all his gifts and packed them neatly back into the box.

"Can you call Xander?" Angel asked. "Not - not now. But at some point. Ask him to stop by?"

If Veronica was surprised by this request, she masked it well.

"Uh, yeah, sure," she said. "I'm not sure when they're getting back from the UK, but it's supposed to be sometime tonight."

"That'd be great," Angel said. His eyes were starting to drift shut. "Thanks."

Veronica smiled. "I'll let you get some rest," she said. "And I'll tell the doctor to make sure you get something to eat when you wake up."

She moved the box of his gifts to the table next to his bed and said, "I'll see you tomorrow," before she left. It was entirely possible he was sleeping by the time she said that though.
