The Clinic - The Morning After

Wilson and House had been up the whole night, between hourly checks on Rory, Marty and Logan they had -laughably- tried to relieve each other for a few hours of sleep but each had been too keyed up to take advantage and after the first try had given up.

The oncologist had quietly worked on paperwork in between rounds, while House had played with his gameboy. For the moment, neither had brought up the subject of what had just happened with the other, it was just all too confusing and in the end, not important to delivering medical attention. In some ways, it was better that they didn't have the details, that would just confuse the focus.

As morning dawned, Wilson had taken advantage of a quick break to grab a shower and clean the blood off his skin and out of his hair. He'd come back and tagged House out, firmly suggesting that the older doctor needed to put some intense heat therapy on that bad leg of his...and also demanding -in a loving manner- that House make coffee.

When House headed off towards the little apartment, Wilson began to run rounds once more.

Woozie again - mostly because of the shot - not what was in it, but because he really hated needles - Shep nodded.

He went through the muscles, right? That's why I can't move my fingers very much? I mean, if he hit the bone...

*winces as he tries to curl his fingers again, having no more success than before*

*watches as Wilson prepares the sutures*

Oh, god, this is gonna suck. Uh... oh...god... I thought I was nauseus before...

"Hey," Lana squeezes his good hand to get his attention. "Focus on me. Don't look at him, just pay attention to me. I'm right here, okay? I'm not going anywhere." She tugs the wastebasket closer with her foot just in case.

Right. Look at you. Look at... I think I need that trash can.

Lana has it ready for him if he needs it. "Hey, you're going to be okay. Just breathe, try and relax. Squeeze my hand if you need to."

[ooc: Err, how bad are we talking here? Because it's starting to sound like Shep should be going to the mainland like...now. :)]

[oh, hell if I know... I'm not at all medically trained. I'm assuming that for a sword to get to bone it would have to go through skin and muscle... that can't be *good*... Feel free to god-mod the injury. I have no great plans that being in a hospital for a while will muck up. :)]

[ooc: Okay, did he cut John's wrist from on top or from under?]

[my assumption is short-ways on the underside of the wrist... where all the lines are between the hand and the arm.]

[ooc: Oy...okay.]

[ooc: I tend to play injuries like real life events. You don't plan to get hurt - okay there was the ankle thing, but there was a reason for that - so when you do the doctors tell you what to do and you do it and you rearrange your life accordingly. So I won't get antsy about whatever you decide needs to happen.]

*Shep wrinkles his eyebrows... 'Hold my hand'??? The Doc's practicing his darning on one and the other is wrapped around the trashcan, he thinks, but before he can say anything, he's wretching into the garbage.

Oh, god... sorry...

*He really feels faint now, but isn't sure if he's supposed to lay down*

"Don't worry about it," Lana says to him. "Can he lie down?" she asks the doctor. "I think he's got a thing about needles."

Listening to John talk, Wilson frowned and rather then applying the needle to the young man's wrist, he instead ran a quick battery of tests on Sheppard's hand.

He did not like what he saw.

"No. I'm not doing this." Straightening, he moved to replace the shoestring with a pressure bandage.

"Shep, you need to go to a hospital with a surgeon who specializes in these sorts of injuries. I'm going to dress the wound to stem the bleeding and get you evacced off the island to MCV."

That sounds... bad...

How exactly does that work? And what's an MCV?

"MCV is the Medical College of Virginia. It's one of the top hospitals on the East Coast. They'll have specialists there who will repair the damage to your soft tissue as well as any nerve and vascular damage as well. They're your best chance for maintaining complete use of your hand."

Again, he was speaking clamly but moving quickly as he wrapped up Shep's wrist and then headed to the phone to call in the necessary evac vehicles.

*watches Wilson move around and notes that he's now multi-tasking which means time is an issue*

Okay... I go by myself? Um... I don't suppose there's anyway I can get out of this ridiculous outfit before I go?

Lana watches Dr. Wilson, trying to maintain a calm expression, but feeling rather anxious.

Wilson hung up the phone and looked back at John, shaking his head.

"Uh, no you'll get an uncomfortable hospital gown soon enough. I don't think Rover would fit into the ambulance so you'll have to go with the paramedics. I'll call ahead to let them know who to contact at the school for your guardian information."

Yeah... that gets a little interesting.

I don't have any guardians.

Studying his handiwork, Wilson moved over to the counter and began to fill out paperwork he'd be sending along with John.

"Then...I imagine they'll have to talk to the school. You are probably going to be held at least through Tuesday, they'll do surgery and then have you on bed rest for that time for the blood loss and they'll start a physical therapy routine for you to follow when you come back. I'll contact Bristow, let him know what's happened and I'm sure the school will take care of your academic responsibilities and let you know how you can catch up the work."

*Looking less than happy, and more than a little frightened, Shep nods*

Great. Any chance I can have some of my stuff sent over? My laptop, some pajamas... tell me I don't have to spend three days in a hospital gown so they can reach my *hand*. Clothes to come home in... not only are these ridiculous, they're all bloody.

*Speaking for so long has made him dizzy, so he hangs his head, and takes a few deep breaths.*

This really sucks. Really, really sucks. We were just playing around.

Lana looks at him and sees that he's frightened. "Can I go with him - at least to ride with him so he's not alone?"

He was not unsympathetic to John's situation and flicking a glance towards Lana he caught his lower lip between his teeth before replying.

"Lana, I can't clear you to go off the island. I'm sorry, that has to come from the Administration. However what might be good is if you get permission from the Admins then gather up John's stuff and take it to him at the hospital?"

Lana looks over at Shep. "Would you like me to do that? I can go get clearance and then get your stuff and meet you over there?"

That'd be great. Thanks. I'm in 402. My roommate is Wesely, he should be able to find everything.

*Shep is starting to feel extremely tired and wants nothing more than to lay down somwhere and curl up in a little ball and sleep. This has been a much longer day than he expected and he suspected it was far from over.*

God I'm tired. And cold. This sucks. Have I mentioned this yet?
