FTEC - Tuesday, 06/08

Hawkeye was busy working at the front desk. No, he wasn't doing inventory or reviewing patient charts. He had glue and scissors and all kinds of decorative items creating a large poster on STDs. This was to join the other similar posters on a table in one of the exam rooms on similar subjects that he planned to put around town. They weren't aimed only at the kids. Adults needed educational posters too.

There was a sign out front today that said 'No birds, no bees and definitely no bull. Free advice and samples inside!' and a bowl full of condoms inside on the desk.

The headache that Rose had had for a few days - okay, for a few months, really - had changed from a nagging annoyance into more like a spike pounding through her skull. Trying to ignore it worked to a point, but as black shapes flashed across her vision even Rose could admit this wasn't quite normal.

She found her way to the Clinic, feeling like an idiot but too in pain to care. What kind of person went to the Clinic purposefully? It was just Wrong. "Uh -" okay, by the art supplies, was this the clinic or a preschool? "Hello?"

Rose was pretty sure this was the attractive doctor Shelley had mentioned. Which meant she was now thinking about Shelley's nipple issues, and that wasn't really helping the headache.

"I'm Rose Hathaway," she said, trying not to look towards the brighter lights. "What's with all the glitter?"

"I've heard it!" Rose said quickly. She had no idea what glitter had to do with STDs or even the educational posters, but that seemed to be a question for another day - or never, never wasn't bad. "Um, it's kinda stupid, but I've been having this headache for days, and it got way worse this morning. So, uh, yeah."

Very clear she was. Possibly it would have helped if she didn't feel like a moron what with the going to the clinic and all.

"Did it have a name?" she asked, still gritting her teeth to try to ignore the headache as much as possible. "I mean, after three years, it's like a pet or something."

The intention was not to burst into the clinic, but slowing from a run tended to give that effect what with the windswept hair and quick breath. Dimitri had sprinted across town, abandoning his groceries in the little green hand basket when he heard Dr. Pierce's message (http://guardian-god.livejournal.com/512.html?thread=320000). Rose unconscious was a big deal. Rose unconscious from a headache kindled a certain amount of guilt that he'd ever let that conversation go. Dimitri was thankful for the skills that allowed him to focus on getting to the clinic and finding this Dr. Pierce before letting his emotions get the best of him.

"Rose Hathaway?" Dimitri inquired, face looking stone cold and serious.

Unfortunately his sense of humor was fairly lost on Dimitri at the moment. "Yes, thank you for calling, Dr. Pierce. Is she awake?" That whole unconscious thing hadn't sounded good.

"She's a dhampir," Dimitri replied, trying to think of anything useful. "And actually, she is bonded to another, meaning she knows where her bondmate is and what she's feeling and doing." If only it was simpler to explain. "She complained about her head on Sunday. Clearly I should have insisted she see a doctor, but we're not normally prone to illness or injury in any lasting manner. I thought it would just go away..."

"I'll offer any help I can," Dimitri said, nodding his understanding of the problems with the situation. Though he did wonder why the headache would be worse on a plane and at the gym but improve at the clinic.

She drifted in and out of consciousness as the testing and prodding continued. Everything was fuzzy, no good reason to actually wake up. It felt safer being unconscious, and she was - as far as she could judge - happy to be there.

It was kind of the doctor to allow Dimitri to sit with her, and he pulled up a chair to wait for Rose to wake up already. Dimitri didn't know how long he sat with his elbows on his knees and his chin resting on his clasped hands, watching and hoping she really was as fine as the doctor had said, but it was long enough for the mask he so careful maintained to fall away and leave all his concern exposed to the world.

At some point, the fuzziness dissipated enough that Rose knew Dimitri was there. She turned on her side towards him, trying to wake up to talk but sinking back into unconsciousness again.

Finally she woke up, a little confused about where she was. Blinking to try to clear her vision, Rose looked up at Dimitri. "Hey."

Watching her wake up, Dimitri leaned closer to slip his hand over hers. "Roza..." He glanced toward the door, considering calling the doctor, but she didn't seem to be in pain. "How are you feeling? Do you need the doctor?"

She wrinkled her nose at the offer, a little surprised as everything came back to her. The faces, Mason, the terrible headaches.

"I'm fine," she said, almost shocked to say it. She turned her hand under his to hold it, wondering if everything had just been a weird dream. "I'm at the clinic still?"

Dimitri nodded. "The doctor called me. And you cannot tell me you're fine after that." His voice was quiet and patient as ever, but it was clear enough that he meant to take this seriously.
