Simon came in early today, although he was unusually distracted due to the plans for moving into his new room. Not that the move required any complex logistics, but he had to tell Mary and hope she didn't take offence.

He sat down behind the desk and skimmed through a newly arrived journal, making some comments in red in the margin to statements he found questionable.

"You are not aligned with the sensitivities of womanly ears?" Mina teased lightly.

"Uh, I guess not." He blushed, but he was sure River would have agreed.

"Few men are," Mina said. "You shall be glad to know my sensibilities are not so easily swayed." She took a sip of the tea. "May I ask why you entered this profession?"

Relieved at the change of subject, he replied: "For different reasons. I always had a fascination for medicine and the study of the human body. We are all such complex beings. And then, as I got older, I wanted to be able to help people, to be useful to society in some way."

"Very noble," Mina said. "Aspirations I can admire, sir."

"And you?" Simon asked. "What made you choose yours?"

"I come from a time where many pursuits are closed to women," Mina said. "I strove to seek knowledge beyond what society would grant me."

"That must have been quite frustrating!" Simon exclaimed. "At least Fandom doesn't seem to have many prejudices like that."

"Indeed not," Mina said. "Though other changes are... less welcome."

"Anything in particular that bothers you?" Simon asked.

"Sexuality and sensuality are now on display at all corners," Mina said. "And not kept in the home," Mina said.

"Uh, no, that's true. I'm rather used to that," Simon said. "It being on display, I mean."

"It is quite obscene for my time," Mina said. "It feels... rather ridiculous."

"I think I can understand that," Simon told her. "In your time people are more... discrete?"

"To the point I fear I may be considered frigid," Mina said with a polite chuckle.

Simon blushed a little. "Well, I hope the benefits of this time outweighs the negatives sides, most of the time."

"Indeed," Mina said. "So far, my time here has been mostly pleasant."

"I came here only to find my sister," Simon said, "And when I find her I'll go back, but in the meantime... it's a good place."

"You have lost your sister?" Mina said. "That is terrible."

"She was kidnapped," he said. "And I have no way to go after her." The worry that he usually kept beneath the surface, reemerged.

Mina pressed a hand to her chest. "That is awful," she said. "Nothing can be done at all?"

"At the moment, no." He shook his head. "I hope I will find a way." He tried smiling. "But I shouldn't burden you with this."

"It is a large burden for a man to carry," Mina said. "It is noble of you to carry it so quietly. Though also foolish, as I would endeavor to believe that there are many in this town who could lend assistance."

"She was kidnapped by a former teacher and taken to her universe. It seems like no one knows how to get there." Simon frowned to himself.

"It seems the school is more sinister than many would have me believe," Mina said. "If there is ever a way in which you need assistance, please do not hesitate."
