Ronan had left the day shift to the nurses today, instead coming in for the evening shift with his Art of War compatriots. "So, yeah, I don't know if you guys have been in here before," he said, "so if you have any questions, feel free to ask."

The clinic was open for business. And hopefully wasn't getting any (although Ronan wouldn't object all that much, really, healing people can be terribly exciting).

Queen Alice's royal schedule opened, and lo, for she descended upon the clinic.

"What is it you do here?" Alice asked, glancing around with some curiosity and a small measure of hesitation. "Besides cure the ill, that is."

If he mentioned the words electroshock therapy she was going to be a blur of Queen Alice, running back to the dorms.

"Healing work," Ronan said, with a smile. "Mostly I stick to lacerations and broken bones, when the patient's willing to accept a magical solution. Not everyone is. Disease and illness are a little more beyond my abilities, but I can definitely alleviate symptoms in those cases, too."

"What sort of magical solution?" she asked, still darting nervous looks into the corners. No straps, no rusted metal trays holding strange instruments. So far, so good. "I mean, why would anyone object? Does it ... change you?"

"... It can," Ronan said, after a careful moment of thought on phrasing. "But then anything in life can change you. No, it's more... I don't think everyone's comfortable with the idea of magic? I think it's more people who come from worlds without it that object, and even then not very many of them do."

"I can see that," she said, mulling it over. "If you were from a world where magic was a very bad thing, it may be hard to adjust. Especially with such a very important matter as one's health."

"Yes, exactly," Ronan agreed. "And also for those who don't have magic back home, or at least are unaware of it, something they don't understand can be just as bad as something they've come to hate."

"Fear is such a strong motivator," she sighed. "It's hardly ever rational, but it can be the loudest voice, some days. Is this hospital only for ... physical injuries?"

Well, that was a telling question.

"I believe we have a psychiatric doctor on staff at least I think that's what Harlequinn is here as," Ronan said, "although I've not had the pleasure of meeting her myself. Still, I trust that the clinic wouldn't hire anyone of... dubious methods."

"Of course not," Alice said, not sounding as though she believed it. "Though there's little to be done for madness, really. Do you have visitors often? Patients, I mean, though the other kind as well."

"Luckily, we don't actually get all that many patients," Ronan said. "The people on the island seem to mostly take good care of themselves. That's different, of course, when Fandom likes to... throw things at us. The invasions and such.

"As for other visitors, I don't get as many as I used to; my one regular visitor graduated back in the spring."

"Oh?" she asked. "I'm sorry to hear that. Who was it? I doubt I would know him; I only arrived here in May myself."

She shuddered. "I can imagine some were in need of ... clinic services, after our Vice-Principal turned evil, and again when those strange others arrived this fall."

"My friend Isabel," Ronan explained. "And yeah, it's things like that. And the occasional 'it sounded like a good idea at the time' event."
