FTEC – Saturday [September 6]

Ino was a bit sleepy after the party last night, but it wasn’t all that bad and she showed up at the clinic bright and early. Cheerfully greeting the nurses and making sure everything (and she was even starting to figure out what most of it was named) was all properly stocked up, Ino curled up behind the desk and set to studying with a will.

With any luck, it’d be a quiet day today.

Ender pulled away from Ichigo's bedside, his visual curiosity sated for the moment. He did raise one quiet, questioning look to Ino's hands: it was just one thing in a long line of matters on Fandom that he had been trying to wrap his mind around.

He supposed he could move back to his old seat entirely, but... "'Spiritual energy'," he said, finally giving in, "You'll have to explain that."

Ichigo sulked, but he dropped his hand. "Yeah, explain," he said helpfully, happy with any question that wasn't directed at him.

She very carefully refrained from rolling her eyes, and kept her attention on his side.

"Every living thing has it," Ino said. "It's from the energy inherent in every cell of our bodies, and from our mental and spiritual strength. What we call chakra is the ability to take those two types of energy, mix them together, and use it effectively outside of our bodies."

"Interesting," he said. He'd snagged his old seat at last, happy to leave the healing process to the people who were actually involved in it. "And you use it to heal." That part wasn't a question, and he was more than happy to leave it at that.

"Hope so," Ichigo mumbled underneath his breath. He started to relax as whatever Ino was doing eased the pains and he let out a shaky breath, his eyes closing briefly.

She made a noncommittal sound in the back of her throat. Among other things, but that went unspoken. After all, it was clear, rather, that she was and so it didn't even merit speaking more about it.

Not when she was getting tired and was still healing.

Definitely getting easier now and he glanced up at Ino, frowning. "Don't overdo it."

She scowled back at him. "I know my own limits."

Ino just... ignored them sometimes.

"Knowing them and following them are two different things," Ichigo pointed out, clearly feeling better.

Ichigo was going to be fine, and obviously, the time for questions had passed. "I'll be at the dorms," Ender said, sliding out of his seat and onto the floor. "Contact me if he needs help getting back."

Ichigo looked over at Ender, his mouth already open to thank him and then he stopped himself. "I'll see you later," he said instead.

She rolled her eyes. Boys.

"He means thank you," she said, sounding long-suffering.

"I told him not to thank me," Ender said, his shoulders shrugging slightly. "I'll see you later," he echoed, with the same tone that Ichigo had used - slang, it was always the slang - and walked out of the exam room.

"You don't need to talk for me," Ichigo objected, glaring at Ino.

"It was polite," she said, stressing the word. "I don't care if he said not to."

She eyed his side for a moment. Just a little more? That was good.

"Yeah well...," Ichigo heaved a sigh. Ow.

"You still don't need to overdo it."

"One thank you isn't overdoing it," she said, pretending that was what he meant.

"If you faint, I'm going to have to pick you up and that's just going to undo what you just did," he pointed out, stubbornly.

"I haven't fainted in months!" Ino protested. "I'm not going to!"

Even if she was really tired. But the cuts and bruises on his side were nearly gone.

It was worth it.

He made a face. "Someone else could come in," he reasoned.

And hurt, flashing across her face.

And now he felt guilty on top of sore. "That's not what I meant."

"That's what you said," she snapped, as the last of the bruises faded away. "I'll be right back with bandages for your shoulder."

It was and he was too tired to reason himself out of it. He dropped his head back on the pillow, thinking of the fight. Of having to be saved, of having an ordinary hollow hit him around like that. And then there was the voice, still mocking now that his resolve had faded.

Ino wished she could collapse on a bed, but she couldn't, she was on duty and had a patient to take care off.

She came back a few minutes later with white, clean bandages in her arms and disinfectant as well. "You're going to have to sit up." It would be easier to work with his shoulder then.
