FTEC -- Saturday, May 24 -- Day Shift.

Surprisingly, the phenomenon of bipedal proboscises grew rather boring after a shockingly short while, even after Adah had finally convinced one of the nurses to snag one up for her and she could do a little bit of dissecting and research to see if there was any logical rhyme or reason on why anyone would bother splicing these particular tissues together to this specific cause.

Conclusion:

This is just silly.

It started to get a little annoying after a while to realize that a bunch of noses were more mobile than she was. They avoided her easily after the first few dissections, but that didn't mean Adah still couldn't attempt to fire antihistamine pills at them from the front desk.

Tyler didn't exactly wake up that morning.

This would be because Tyler hadn't slept.

This would be because his prescription for Seconal had lapsed, and his doctors would not renew it over the phone. Which he should have taken care of before leaving Arizona, but sometimes he failed at such considerations.

All of this would be why he was now at the clinic's front desk, hoping to get a new prescription with as little hassle as possible. "Hey."

Tyler rocked back on his heels. "Who would I talk to around here if I need a prescription refilled?"

Tyler gave Adah a skeptical look. She was young, and there was something about the way she moved, some old injury or handicap, nothing he could place. "Are you the doctor?"

He would have just gone to a mainland clinic, but there were the problems of being 10 years out of time and in the wrong country. He doubted even socialist medicine handed out barbiturates to anyone with their hand out. Fandom was at least a safe from of weird.

The girl had a point there, and it wasn't as though he saw anyone else. Tyler retrieved a pill bottle -- prescription for a standard dose of secobarbital, festooned with stickers warning not to do anything fun under its influence -- from his inside jacket pocket. He passed it over to Adah as if giving her something precious.

"It's to treat chronic insomnia." Which was a partial truth, but he never believed in giving more information than the situation called for.

"Thanks," he called after her, then leaned against the wall to wait.

"Very painless. If the placebos work for me, I won't even complain," Tyler said, clearly relieved. He imagined that the clinic had his paperwork from when he'd seen Dr. Pevensie somewhere, but it was nice not to have to have that scrutinized. "I guess I'll see you or someone like you next time this runs out."

Tyler shook his head, rather vehemently. "I'm not really the barbiturate addict type."

"I like to think so," Tyler nodded. He pocketed the pills. "Later."
