FTEC: Monday Evening

Katara was glad to see that Dawn had woken up and left the clinic since she was here on Friday, but it wasn't much better that Dean was here instead.

So she was checking often and trying to make sure that everything possible was going well.

The whole place seemed rather eeriely quiet late at night. Dean hadn't noticed the night before because, well, out cold, but he did now.

He dozed on and off, not really in a mental place where he wanted to sleep any deeper somewhere deeper.

Late night visits weren't exactly encouraged, but Alec wasn't usually one to listen to silly things like rules or guidelines when he didn't feel like it.

So into the clinic he slipped, past the desk, and back into the exam rooms. Leaning in to watch Dean, he hesitated a long moment, not sure if he should wake him... But not wanting to risk not doing so.

Dean was awake enough to now something was different and opened his eyes. "Alec," he said softly, immediately struggling up into a sitting position, ignoring the twinges and shards of pain as he did so.

"Whoa, hey," Alec said with a grimace, slipping further into the exam room to push Dean back with a gentle hand against his shoulder. "Don't make it worse."

"Are you okay?" Dean asked, searching Alec's face for any sign of... he wasn't entirely sure. Lingering trauma.

"I'm fine," Alec said dismissively, giving Dean a searching look. "Why aren't you sleeping?"

He gave a one shoulder shrug. "I've been sleeping off and on all day. Just kinda continuing the pattern." Dean left out the part where he couldn't seem to get out of the hyper aware mode where he was just waiting for something to pounce. After the last week, that would be pretty much a given even without the almost being shredded to death.

He nodded, straightening at Dean's bedside almost awkwardly. "I hear ya." Alec smirked faintly as he looked down at his double, the expression more wry than mocking. "It's been a pretty crappy weekend."

"Yeah." He took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I should've figured it out sooner."

Alec half-shook his head, looking down at the floor a moment. "It's not like you expected him to come waltzing into town wearing my body, " he said evenly.

"Pretty high on the nightmare scale," Dean said. "I still should've figured it out -- I knew something was off. You were doing and saying things you never do and say." He looked at Alec sharply. "That was you, wasn't it? No matter how much that bastard had control, that was you trying to send smoke signals."

"Much as I could," Alec said, glancing up with a very faint smirk. "Bastard wasn't good enough to see everything he wanted."

A ghost of a smile touched Dean's lips. "He didn't know who he was dealing with, the level of stubborn you've got." He sobered. "I'll do better next time," he said then grimaced as he realized how that sounded. "I mean I'll do better reading your signals, not I'll do better next possession. 'Cause that ain't happening again."

Michael didn't like hospitals, so it had taken him a while to work up to a visit. Finding the door unlocked even at this hour, he slipped in to see if Dean was awake.

Dean was indeed awake, finding himself unable to go back to sleep after Alec left.

"Hey", he said quietly from the doorway. "Heard you were in here. How're you doing?"

"I'll survive," Dean said, trying to yank his brain away from his brooding and focus on his visitor. "You're out kinda late."

"Yeah, well..." He shrugged a little awkwardly. "Don't like hospitals. Or crowds. So I figured I'd come by when nobody else probably would."

"Seems like an attitude a lot of people have," Dean said. He waved a hand at Michael. "You can come in. Demon shredding isn't catching."

He came the rest of the way in, almost relieved by the permission. "They told you how long they're gonna keep you here, or is it just a 'till you can walk' deal?"

"They haven't really said anything, but as soon as I can without passing out or falling over, I'm outta here," Dean said. "I'm not that fond of hospitals either."
