With so many patients coming in, Doogie figured it would be a nice idea to come in and help Dr. Lambert. He checked on the patients who were still around, before going to man the desk while he waited for Natalie to arrive.

"So am I." Conner smiled slightly and closed his eyes. "If I couldn't, I'd have . . . yeah. It would've been bad. Really bad. 'cause it's you."

Silly boy and his insecurity about expressing his feelings clearly.

Gwynn smiled and continued to run her hand through his hair. She was trying very hard not to think of what would have happened to her had Conner not heard her screams.

She nodded slightly, thinking she understood what he meant.

"But you did hear me and you did not have to deal with the really bad."

"I know," Conner mumbled. He was pretty tired from running around all day, and if she kept that up he was going to fall asleep right here.

If they were back in the dorms, Gwynn would ask Conner to stay in her room with her as she didn't want to be alone. However, this was not the dorms and she wasn't sure of the rules about these types of situations.

"You should go get rest, Conner," she said reluctantly. "The last two nights have not been easy for you."

"Not leaving you," he insisted vaguely through a yawn. "Stayed in this chair last night and I'm gonna do it again."

Gwynn loved him a little bit more for that insistence. She continued stroking his hair as she fought to keep her eyes open. "Do not want you to be uncomfortable."

"Nuh uh. 'm fine," Conner replied as his eyes drifted shut. "'s better than . . . somethin'. Yeah."

Gwynn was asleep again shortly thereafter.
