FTEC - Tuesday Evening Shift 5/22

Wilson had spent a nice, relaxing day corrupting ducks and otherwise enjoying the summer sun.

Thus he was a bit surprised to find that the clinic had a patient in residence when he arrived at work that night. Frowning a little as he recognized Chad's name, Wilson went over the young man's chart with the on duty nurse and gave her instructions to keep him apprised of Chad's comfort through the night.

Then, he settled down at the front desk and set up his laptop to work on his latest journal article.

"Doctor Wilson's stitching her up," Bel said. "She's strong. She'll be okay." He started pacing the room, growing more and more aggitated. "I'm gonna go find that bastard and make sure he's dead."

Anders shook his head. "No, stay," he mumbled. "Got him good. Need you here more . . . me an' Phoebe, I mean. So not how we planned to end the night, huh?"

"No," Bel said quietly, continuing to pace. He stopped and slammed his fist into the wall. "Dammit, why can I heal myself but not anybody else?"

Anders smiled faintly. "You can't do everything, y'know. I'll be okay in a few days. Soon's I get stitched up an' some blood back in me . . . 'sides, more privacy here than the cabins."

Bel smiled a little despite himself. "That the only thing you ever think about?" he said.

Anders laughed softly. "Was all I've been thinking about since we moved into the cabins. Gonna take more'n a stupid guy with a knife to make me forget."

Bel sat down by Anders and put his hand on his shoulder. "I think you're gonna have to wait a few days longer now," he said.

"Aw, hell." Anders sighed, but he relaxed a bit at Bel's touch. "It's not frakking fair, I swear it isn't."

Phoebe was stitched, a fresh lactate ringer hung with IV antibiotics and pain medication to help combat the risk of infection and keep her comfortable through the night.

Or as comfortable as was possible in these situations.

So, Wilson was coming back into Anders' room. He'd switched out scrubs again -no need to wig the guys out with the sight of Phoebe's blood on his shirt...Wilson was wigged out enough by that kthnx- and since he knew he'd get no further before he gave an update, he launched right into it.

"I've stitched up Phoebe's wounds and she's resting comfortably, receiving a second bag of fluids but her vitals are strengthening. Now Mr. Anders...about you."

Bel had leapt to his feet when Wilson entered, and now he sagged against the wall in relief. "Thank you," he sighed.

"Oh, thank frak," Anders groaned. "I hurt like hell . . . is it bad?"

Giving Bel a quick, understanding smile, Wilson turned his attention to Anders' wound, while he prepped a fresh suture kit.

"Well, all cleaned up it looks like it stopped short of getting down into the muscle but I imagine it stings something fierce," Wilson said with understanding and he reached for a syringe to load up a local.

"I'll get this stitched up for you and give you something a bit stronger through the IV to help you rest."

Pulling on some gloves, he looked at Bel.

"Bel, I'll get you some scrubs so you can clean up."

Because Wilson figured his chance of getting Bel to leave the clinic to go change clothes was somewhere being none and hell no.

Bel glanced down at himself and the blood covering his clothes and hands. Wasn't the first time he'd been drenched in blood, and probably wasn't the last. But it had never been the blood of people he cared about so much. He shuddered a little and nodded. "Yeah," he said. "Good idea."

"Good," Anders said faintly. "No extensive rehab stint for me, then, I guess. Bel, you're gonna come right back, right?"

He was a little worried about the whole stitches thing, yeah.

"I'll be right back, I'm not going anywhere," Bel promised. He took the scrubs Wilson offered him and left the room to find a place to change.

"Guess I got lucky," Anders said distantly. The anesthetic had started to kick in, he noticed. "Feels kinda funky though."

"We'll take funky over pain for the time being," Wilson reassured Anders and then settled down to the task of knitting him back together.

"Mm. Funky definitely wins," Anders agreed. "Thanks, Doc . . ."

After stopping to check on Phoebe again, Bel walked back into exam two as Anders was sliding into sleep. Funny how much he really looked like Christian now when he was dressed in hospital scrubs. "How's he doing?" he asked anxiously.

"What else would I be doing on a Tuesday night?" Wilson said with a smile and then his focus went to getting Anders sutured up and comfortable for the night.

Looking up Wilson did a bit of a double take, wondering if Troy had come down to check on things, then he gave his head a shake at Bel's question and smiled reassuringly.

"He's all closed up and resting, how's Phoebe?"

"She's still sleeping," Bel said. "They're both really gonna be okay, right?" There was a note of desperation in his voice.

"They're going to be fine, Bel." Wilson said with firm conviction in his tone.

"Come on, lets see about getting you settled in for the night."
