FTEC, Monday Morning

After two nights sleeping sitting up in Efferton Manor, Elliot's bed felt like heaven. But she couldn't stay in it too long; she had to get back to the clinic to relieve Stark. After just a few hours rest, she made it back to the clinic and started flipping through charts to see which patients had stayed the night. It seemed like there were a lot of them.

[OOC: I did my best to match the exam rooms to last night's post -- let me know if anything is wrong.]

"We're in the clinic." His jaw clenched for a moment, but he continued in that same soothing voice. "Jarod brought you here. You were knocked out, remember?" He wondered if he should think about getting a nurse or a doctor, if Lana couldn't remember what had happened.

Lana took a deep breath as it all came back to her - or at least the part of Sunday that she remembered. "Right. Jarod. Thank God he was there." She held onto Jim. "I was so scared and cold and everything hurt. He wouldn't leave me even when I told him he should escape on his own."

Jealousy warred with relief that someone had been taking care of her. Relief won. He kissed her gently on the forehead. "I'm just glad you're safe. I tried to get to you, but . . ."

"I was so scared that something had happened to you. I knew you'd be so worried that I didn't come home Friday night." Lana started shivering again, clearly becoming more and more distressed. "I knew you'd try to find me, but it was so cold and I was so confused and I couldn't stay awake and..."

Jim immediately began his soothing movements again. "Shh, love, shh, it's okay. It's alright, I was fine." He wasn't going to mention his lack of sleep. "I was worried, but everything's okay now." He pressed another kiss to her forehead, holding her tightly.

"I want to go home," she said softly and felt an unaccountable need to cry. "I just want to be home in our room, in our bed, and forget about all this.

Jim brushed her hair back from her face and ducked his head, kissing her softly. "Let me get the doctor and we'll see if I can take you home, okay?"

Lana nodded carefully, since too much movement still caused a lot of pain - although she was totally prepared to lie about it if it would get her home. "Okay. Thank you."

Jim carefully extracted himself, trying not to jostle her too much. He made sure the clinic blanket was tucked around her, brushed the hair out of her eyes, and kissed her forehead again. "Be right back."

Right about then, Elliot stuck her head in the door. "How's she doing?" she asked Jim quietly.

Jim looked relieved at the appearance of the doctor. "Better now. She was a little disoriented when she woke up, couldn't remember how she got here." Jim looked towards Lana again, running a hand through his hair. "Think she's in pain, but she won't tell me."

Elliot nodded, flipping through Lana's chart. "Concussions will do that," she said. "I might need to have you step outside if she won't talk to me."

She stepped over to Lana's bedside. "How are you doing?"

"I'm okay," Lana said. "I just want to go home."

"That might take some time," Elliot said apologetically. "Your boyfriend says you were disoriented when you woke up -- can you tell me your name, the date, and where you are?"

"I'm Lana Lang," she said. "I think it's Monday, which would make it the 4th of December, and I'm in the clinic." She tried to push herself up to a sitting position, but the pain was pretty bad, so she stayed the way she was.

"That's good," Elliot said approvingly, looking at Lana's eyes; they looked normal. "And on a scale of one to ten, one being normal and ten being having your skin ripped off by weasels, where would you say your pain is?"

[OOC: Should she be discharged or kept one more night?]

Lana hesitated. "Four?" She looked up at the doctor and sighed a little. "Maybe a seven or so? But I've had a lot of concussions before and I'm sure I'm okay to go home. I promise I'll stay in bed and rest and drink lots of liquids. And Jim will stay with me the whole time. I just... I'll feel safer and rest better in my own bed."

[OOC: Medically, she should probably stay another night, but send her on home with strict warnings and she'll be good. :) ]

"How does a teenager get a lot of concussions?" Elliot asked, and sighed. "I can't make you stay, but you have to promise not to leave your bed unless it's necessary and to come right back in here for any vomiting, any dizziness, any additional pain. Though at seven if you go up, you'll probably be screaming so loud half the dorm will come running."

She went over to a cabinet. "I'm going to send you home with some painkillers and some antibiotic cream for the wound."

"Meteor mutants," Lana said quietly. "And I swear I'll stay in bed and come back if I get worse."

She glanced over at Jim. "He'll take good care of me. And thank you. I... no offense to the clinic or anything, but I know I'll feel better at home."

"No offense taken -- I don't really like sleeping in hospitals either," Elliot said, deciding it was easier not to ask about "meteor mutants." "Be careful at home, Lana."

She turned to Jim. "Help her get dressed, and I'll call for a rickshaw cab for you guys. The walk to the dorms is too long for her."

Jim nodded, having listened closely to her instructions, knowing that Lana wouldn't follow them if it meant having to come back. "Thanks."

Lana managed a smile for him. "Well, this will be a little different. I don't think you've ever put my clothes on me before."

For the first time in a while Jim's tight mask of concern cracked and he actually smiled, ducking his head as he chuckled. "I'd be offended if it weren't completely true."

With his help she managed to get her clothes back on, though she was white and shaking with pain by the end. She sat in a chair and just held onto his hand tightly. "Good thing I'm not walking," she said, quietly wondering just how she was going to make it up 3 flights of stairs.

Jim crouched in front of her, concerned. "Lana, are you sure you're well enough to move?" he asked. "I'm not going anywhere, I don't mind staying in the clinic for however long you need to be here."

And that was easy. Lana wasn't walking anywhere for a few days as long as Jim was there to carry her.
