FTEC - Saturday Evening 10/21

Taking only an hour break between classroom meet and greets and getting down to the Clinic, Wilson refreshed himself with a quick shower and a small snack, planning to share dinner with Aziraphale later in the evening. He also changed out of his suit and tie in to jeans for the night, figuring comfortable took precedence.

Whistling softly as he carried his softsided briefcase into the clinic, Wilson set himself up behind the counter. He was a little surprised to find some flowers already sitting there and checked the card.

"Marie?"

Looking in the back, he didn't see anyone in the exam rooms so shrugged and figured that maybe someone had left them behind and would be back for them later. Taking himself back up to the front desk, Wilson settled in, tonight he didn't even pretend to work on his paper, he was playing with crossword puzzles.

Setting the box up on the counter, Wilson flipped it open and quickly set about plugging it in.

Pausing, he finished setting up the lactate ringer, threading the catheter into Zuko's arm and taping it down.

"What happened." He said without seeming to look up. Really, Bel didn't think Wilson had missed that wince did he?

"She, uh, nailed me, too," Bel admitted. "But I'm fine."

"Torso shot?" Wilson asked as he reached for the elctrodes and then stuck the stethescope into his ears so that he could get a good read on where they needed to be placed on Zuko's chest.

"Yeah," Bel said, nodding. "Right in the chest." And if he ever caught up with that bitch, she was gonna pay.

"Sit." Wilson said, pointing Bel towards a chair by the counter.

Getting the electrodes on to Zuko's chest, the young doctor frowned as he also set up the pulseox and another bank of monitors, then concentrated on the relatively tricky procedure of adjusting the external pacemaker to work with Zuko's damaged heart, bringing it back to a normal rhythmn.

It was like threading a needle with fine silk and took Wilson a few minutes but when the monitors finally began to bleep in something that sounded like a normal pattern, he exhaled and then turned to pull the portable CT scanner out of it's spot off to side and flipped it on, tuning it so that he could have a look at any damage done to Zuko's internal organs without having to run him through the MRI.

Bel made a face but sat down. "I'm fine," he said again. "I can take a lot of punishment." Perhaps a bad choice of words, given last night.

"I'll keep that in mind when I wrap them." Wilson said without looking up from the screen where he was getting the reading from the scanner.

Frowning slightly at the 'good news' that none of Zuko's other organs appeared to be affected, Wilson looked pensive at the damage wrought to the boy's heart.

"Damn it." He said softly, then reached and shut down the machine.

Putting it away, he went to the counter and pulled a couple of medications, drawing the doseage into the needles. He inserted one needle immediately into the lactate ringer but then slipped the other into the palm of his hand and leaned over Zuko.

Gently tapping on his face, he tried to wake the young man up.

"Zuko? Zuko! It's Dr. Wilson, pain in the ass detention person, can you wake up for me, Zuko? I need you to open your eyes."

Zuko groaned, his whole body was aching and someone wasn't leaving him alone. It took a while before he finally responded and managed to open his eyes. He squinted up at Wilson, his brain unable to make sense of where he was.

Taking Zuko's hand, Wilson kept things nice and simple.

"Zuko, if you can hear and understand me, squeeze my hand, twice."

Zuko squeezed his hand twice. It was probably a good thing he was still out of it because he might have made some sort of remark otherwise.

Zuko would have been asking for hernia check followed by a prostate exam, administered with the gorgeous nurse in the room.

Probably best that things kept quiet.

"Very good." Wilson said, straightening and administering the happy drug to put Zuko back out.

Disposing of the needles, he grabbed up a clipboard and quickly filled it out with the pertinent information, then called the nurse into the room.

"Take his vitals every fifteen minutes, call me if there is any change. Get the rest of his clothes off and into a gown and then wrapped in blankets and hot water bottles."

"Yes, Doctor." The nurse said, taking the clipboard.

Motioning his fingers to Bel, Wilson headed for Marie's room.

"Am I going to be all right with gloves, working with her?"

"Yeah, gloves should be fine," Bel said, following. "Just no skin to skin contact."
