The clinic's open early, a pot of coffee is brewing, and Janet's reviewing medical charts on anyone brought in last night.

Janet didn't let herself sigh. "All right, then," she said, daubing disinfectant on the worst of the scrapes.

"If only they'd make a truly effective disinfectant that didn't hurt," said Janet, not mentioning that a disinfectant that stung like hell was going to discourage people from getting into situations where they'd end up injured.

Well, in theory it was going to discourage that, anyway.

"I'll make this part as fast as I can, okay? And I'll see if I can dig up some kind of shirt with buttons so you don't have to move as much."

"That would be fantastic, thank you, Janet," Sam turned her head to look gratefully at her. "I mean it."

"Any time, Sam," said Janet, smiling and meeting Sam's eyes. She squeezed Sam's arm--her uninjured one--reassuringly. "And I know you do. Thanks."

She had extra clothing stashed around somewhere. It was habit after too many years of pulling inhumanly long shifts. It wouldn't take too long to find them.

Sam sighed and tried to stretch as she waited for Janet to come back with clothes for her.

"Stretching's going to make it hurt worse," Janet called over her shoulder as she rummaged through scrubs for her bag of street clothes.

Sometimes there were advantages for having known someone for a long time.

"Y'know, I don't remember you being psychic," Sam called back. She did put her arm down, though.

"I've never been psychic, Sam. I just know you." Janet snickered. "Aha!" She pulled out a dark brown, short-sleeved dress shirt with largeish buttons and waved it in the air. "I think this should work."

"Except that you're so much smaller!" Sam stared at the shirt, which had to belong to Janet.

"Oh, hell," said Janet, throwing the shirt to the floor and glaring at it. "Oversized scrubs would probably work just as well for not wrenching your ribs, but I was hoping to give you some street clothing."

Note to self: Stock clothing in Sam's size in the clinic. Because this was going to happen again, and these nurses were harder to send scurrying for spare clothing than the ones at the SGC.

"Sorry," said Janet. She grabbed an oversized set of scrubs. "Do you want me to burn that outfit, or see if we can stick one of the moddable npc nurses with cleaning it?"

"Okay, then, never mind," said Janet. "I didn't take a close enough look, I guess." She started opening the cabinets, looking for the pain medication. "Do I even need to bother giving you instructions on how to take the painkillers?"

OOC: I'd assumed that Sam hadn't gone back to her room and changed, what with the broken ribs and sprained wrist. Oops, sorry!

"Nope," Sam shook her head, "And Dr. Reid gave me Tylenol with Codeine yesterday."

Sam had time to see another doctor instead of just giving her a call? Oh. "Then I guess you don't need anything from me," said Janet, deliberately keeping her expression bright. "Wrist splinted, you already know how to deal with a concussion, ribs taped, and scrapes disinfected and the bad ones bandaged."

"Thanks," she said, not catching whatever was going on with Janet. "And I wouldn't say that. Dr. Reid and Dr. Pierce were just there. I think Jamie went and got them."

Janet shrugged a little. "I guess I'm just used to being there from the start of things," she said.

"Janet," Sam said, an edge creeping into her voice. She was tired, sore, grumpy, and beginning to lose her patience, "the only one who was there from the start of things was Rory. And the people in the common room when she read from the book, I guess. No one got any warning before this started."
