FTEC, Wednesday day shift

Tommy didn't want to say that having a flat screen TV made having clinic duty better. There was still the problem of having to, whaddyacallit, deal with sick people who expected to make demands on your time.

On the other hand you could not beat the reception.

Currently he was watching Legend Smashers.

She snorted. "No, it's not exactly something they cover in spartan training."

"No," Tex sneered and her eyes locked on Tommy, possibly to see how he'd respond. "First they give you the best combat training known to man. Once you turn thirteen they pump your body with augmentations that either kill you or make you stronger than any soldier. If you live, they install the hardware to hook you up with the armour. Once you master that, you're the UNSC pride and joy. Nice little brainwashed killing machine."

"Earth hasn't changed that much," Tex shrugged.

"Your crew?" Tex narrowed her eyes, the tone wasn't all that unfamiliar to her. Usually they changed tone pretty fast.

"I work alone," Tex said. "But if you're bored, I'm sure I can kick your gear around a bit."

"Got a soft spot for getting your ass kicked, huh?" Tex smirked. "I'm sure I can come up with something. You done?"

"Sorry, I don't make commitments like that." Tex moved off the bed again and pulled her pants back on.

"Depends, I'm a busy girl, doc." She buttoned up and pulled her shirt down.

"Beats paperwork," she shrugged. And really it did.

"Apparently some kids are planning on blowing up a shack in the near future, they promised Commander Appo that they'd get in contact with you." Tex smirked a bit. "Who knows, you might get lucky."

"I'm not going to discourage teenagers playing with dynamite," Tex said. "However, if he sets the forest on fire, you can recruit him permanently for your fire department."

"It's a clinic," Tex said dryly.
