FTEC, Wednesday day shift

Tommy was up.

Well, 'up' was a very broad definition involving a great deal of coffee, J,GOB donuts, and Tommy being even grumpier than usual, but he was awake and that's what counted.

"I came prepared," Lana said holding up a book. "Lots of practice, I told you." She grinned.

"I just didn't like the idea of your being here alone. Sounds stupid, I know, but..."

"No, it's nice," Angel said. "Cal's stayed a couple of nights. And Aeryn once. Logan stayed when Cal couldn't."

"Well, then I'm happy to hang out till someone else comes. And if you fall asleep, that's fine. Until then, we can chat."

She tucked one leg up on the chair and settled down comfortably. "I'm just glad I can do something, you know?"

"I bet," Lana said with feeling. "And it's got to be much worse for you since you're *used* to being able to do things. Me... This is a pretty common feeling for me."

She wrinkled her nose. "Okay, so... here's your chance - captive audience. Tell me anything you want. Or ask me something and I'll tell you."

Angel looked at her curiously. "What would you do if you could do something?" From tone she could probably tell he meant in general, not just for him.

"Make it all better," she said promptly, then shook her head, laughing at herself a little.

"Really, I think that so often for so many things. I just see something and I wish I could wave a wand or something and fix it. But if we're talking sort of super-powers or something - which honestly, I've been thinking about a lot after the whole Logan fiasco...Healing, maybe. Or premonitions so I could see what was going to happen and maybe be able to stop it."

Angel opened his mouth to tell her about Cordy, but then shut it when he remembered maybe she didn't want people knowing about the visions.

"What happened to you with Logan?"

She laughed again and shook her head. "I can laugh about it now, but at the time... I developed the ability to identify anything by taste. Which sounds very cool. Except that I couldn't turn it off, so I ended up identifying *everything* by taste - right down to it's chemical compounds - every time I tasted *anything*. Like food and um... well, it made anything more than cuddling with Shep kind of... problematic."

"Vampire thing," Angel said. "I can track people, know when someone's been around somebody, what they were doing, that kind of thing. Gets a little TMI sometimes."

"I can imagine. I could at least just *not* eat or... other things, but you can't really turn off your nose, can you."

She shook her head. "Just, yeah, more information than you'd want sometimes. What other... abilities do you have - if you don't mind my asking? I never even imagined vampires could be real before I got here - and I was never really into those kinds of movies..."

"Blood's true," Angel said. "Um, strength. Speed. Can jump pretty high or far. Hearing's good too. Plus there's the fangs and bumps."

"Around my eyes." Angel started to gesture, but aborted the attempt when his hand shook too much. He tried to pretend that hadn't happened. "When I game face - bring the fangs out - the rest of my face changes. My eyes go yellow too."

Lana saw the shake in his hand, but pretended she didn't.

"You won't be hurt if I tell you I don't think I particularly want to see you with your, um, 'game face' on?" she said lightly. "You'd probably scare me to death."

"Lovely," said Lana wryly. "Remind me never to get on your bad side. Though... it doesn't take a scary face to make someone dangerous. Learned that often enough myself, first hand."

"Well, that's the thing about the people who mutate because of the meteors back home. They look just like everybody else." Lana shrugged. "But it seems like something about the meteors makes most of them go bad somehow.

She was quiet for a moment, then grinned at him. "Boy, could I ever get away with a lot if I ever went bad. Who'd ever believe it?" she joked.
