Clinic Hours - Friday January 13th 2006

Taking his time coming up from town, Wilson let Cash off his leash to run around the courtyard the way the puppy was used to playing in the morning. Sipping his coffee, he gave the young dog a half an hour before whistling and calling to him. Unlocking the clinic doors, he set about getting the place open for the day.

Cash ran down to the end of the hall and whimpered a couple of times at the door that lead to the apartment but a pause in his activities and a cuddle from the oncologist, coaxed the puppy back up to the front of the clinic. Coffee was started and music was put on, playing quietly at the desk. Rather than picking up his usual crossword puzzle, Wilson tugged out a small rubber ball and sat in the waiting room, tossing it up against the wall for Cash to chase and try to catch.

Doctor and puppy are in! By all means stop by.

Grissom enters the Waiting Room after classes are out for the day.

He actually looks a little nervous, because he knows Wilson is going to be displeased with Grissom not coming yesterday. With everything that has been going on, it slipped his mind to call Wilson and set a new appointment time for Fridays.

Not that he didn't have a history of blowing things off, especially when it came to his health, but he respected Wilson and hoped the young doctor would conclude Grissom was absent-minded perhaps, but not intentionally avoiding his treatments.

Not that he didn't want to avoid it today - with the week he's had, he's exhausted, and by the afternoon it probably looks like someone went at him with a two-by-four.

Taking a seat, Grissom cracks a smile when Cash wanders over looking for attention, and Grissom's softly talking to the dog while he waits for Wilson.

"We had a nice break, thank you for asking. Two families in two states, and everyone came out of it with all their limbs," he says with a bit of a smile.

"And you've done a lot for us," Grissom shrugs. "How was your holiday?"

Grissom was, by nature, a little curious as to what had happened with Wilson over break, but Wilson seemed to be in good spirits, and it certainly wasn't any of Grissom's business.

"Not well," Grissom admitted with a small exhalation of breath.

"The weight loss is starting to concern me, and the fatigue. I know that they're part of the treatment process, but they seem a bit... excessive," he said quietly, probably understating his problems, but at least admitting that they existed.

"I don't think it's dehydration; I can get down water. And the doctor out in Vegas gave me a prescription for an anti-nausea medication, but neither the pills, nor any diet seem to be effective."

"Are you sure you're not just taking my blood for your database?" Grissom said with a weak smile.

"Whatever you feel is appropriate. I know that I should have a few more months of treatments, and the pain is manageable," he somewhat lied.

"I just don't want to have any... episodes at home. Listen, Dr. Wilson, I know that ultimately the treatment should come first, but I don't want her dragging me to the Clinic in the middle of the night because I pass out and hurt myself, or something even more dire. She's done too much, I don't want to upset her any more, if I can avoid it."

Grissom snorted at Wilson's assessment of Sara.

"I understand that on some level. And Sara has been very clear on her stance on the issue," he said wryly. "But ultimately it's my choice to make. If things were different, I'd hire a nurse and I'd allow you to pump me full of antifreeze if that's what you thought would be helpful.

But my health is at a point where if this continues I can no longer take care of myself, and it isn't an issue of trust, it's an issue of...

I won't allow her to watch me... deteriorate, to that point. I won't have her changing my bedpan.

Whatever you think is best, I will follow. I trust your medical advice. But I need, this, to be taken into consideration. If after the tests you think I'm going to need to continue with this aggressive of a treatment, and we can't find a solution to my issues, we'll need to discuss an alternate arrangement," he said rather ominously.

An Exam Room - Friday 1/13/06

Grissom got up slowly and followed Wilson into the exam room, taking a seat as usual and beginning to prepare himself for the infusion.

He left the magazines alone, saving them for until the drip started.
