FTEC, Sunday [8/8]

Ellie had been at the clinic since yesterday. The entire time, really. She was there mostly in case extra medical staff was needed, considering the latest craziness. It had been a petty restless few days, too. She had been too anxious with worry about everyone who was missing, especially her brother.

The clinic, at least, kept her somewhat distracted.

When she hadn't been one of the people milling around the lobby, Chuck had taken his next best guess, and before anything else, though exhausted bruised and achy, he made his way down to the clinic.

First things first, there was family to check on.

"Oh my God, Chuck!" Ellie was getting ready to head out to find him. So when he showed up at the clinic just then, she was just so relieved. So much that she rushed over and hugged him right away. There might have been a few tears of relief as well. She'd just blame allergies. Maybe.

Chuck managed an exhausted smile on seeing Ellie, wrapping his arms around her and clinging just a little. It was good to be back and safe, and know she was too.

"It's almost like you missed me here," he said, going for a little levity.

"How'd you guess?" Ellie said, joking a bit in response. Then, honestly, she added, "I was so worried. I had no idea where you were and...I'm just so glad you're safe now. Are you hurt at all?"

Chuck shook his head, loosening his grip on her just a little. "Nah. Bruised, achy..." disturbed on a number of levels. "Nothing that's gonna kill me." Compared to a lot of people he'd seen before coming out here, he'd got off extremely lightly.

"I... am so glad to be back, you have no idea."

"You sure you don't need any band-aids or anything?" Ellie asked, falling into the protective older sister role. More gently, she asked, "what happened? Where did you go?"

She wasn't sure if it was something he was ready to talk about.

"Um... I might've tripped into a hole in reality-- Which you probably figured out, by now. When I woke up, big underwater city, and... Not good." Blood on the walls, mutants trying to kill him and everyone else. Not good was an understatement.

"But... it's all scrapes and bumps, and--" some memories he'd rather not dig up right now or worry her with, "I will be okay.

"Seems that happened to a lot of people," Ellie said, nodding. "Chuck, I'm just...if anything happened to you..."

She trailed off, finding it unnecessary to finish that statement.

"But it didn't." Ellie apparently needed the extra reminder. "And hopefully I won't get swallowed by any more black holes. I mean, I know what to avoid now, right?"
