FTEC - Tuesday, 07/06

Hawkeye really could have done without the dance party that some of the medical supplies were holding, but Fandom did what Fandom always did, so he sat back, made a phone call in the morning and let them do their thing until lunch time.

After he returned with food (and had a break from the music that was on repeat), that was enough. "Can't you switch to a Jitterbug? What about a Waltz? I'll take line dancing at this stage!"

They started a conga line instead.

Everybody conga!

Braving the heat with the full intention of rewarding himself with iced coffee after, Griff made his way into the clinic on foot.

And promptly wondered if that music from the message shouldn't have ended by this time. "Hours later and it's still Cuban Pete?"

"He's the king of the rumba beat," Hawkeye replied. "The music stops, they stop and then it starts all over again. It's only a two minute song, so you can imagine how many times it's played today." He rose from his seat. "You. Me. Kidney inspection?"

"...that's a lot of rumba," Griff answered making a face. "Bet I pass inspection. No jumping, no running, no training all week long." As much as he'd wanted to and considered it. Especially when he was bored out of his mind.

"We can close the door and drown out some of the music for a while. Good thing we don't have any coma patients or they'd wake up knowing the lyrics by heart."

Hawkeye patted the bed for Griff to sit on and then went to grab his chart.

Griff pushed himself up onto the bed and let his feet dangle in the air, kicking at the side of it a bit just because he could. "So, you get a lot of burn victims visiting after the holiday?"

"Surprisingly few," Hawkeye replied. "Which leads me to believe they either didn't set off fireworks or, more likely, they were too embarrassed to come in and treated themselves at home. If you see anyone with bandaged hands around town, it's probably that. Did you have a good holiday? Better week this week than the one before?"

"Yeah, managed to keep Karev from giving me a poke with a sparkler and there was pie in the cafeteria, so all around it's been a better situation," Griff agreed.

"Nothing improves a week like a piece of pie, even if it comes from the cafeteria. Take off your shirt, if you please. I'll do some poking and prodding and make sure everything stayed where it was supposed to. Did you finish your antibiotics?"

"Nasty as they were, I got through the majority," he answered, tugging off his shirt to let the doctor do his worst. "Everything still intact back there?"

"All in one piece, which is a good start considering that's what stitches are for. You're lucky. They have stitches that dissolve on their own now. You used to have to come and get them taken out. No sign of infection. You'll still be sore there for probably the next week, but if it lasts longer than that, come and see me. Light exercise. Don't go lifting weights or doing yoga with the strange poses. Have you had any trouble from the people who did this?"

"No trouble, doc. They can't follow me, but I'm guessing no yoga means no karate?" Griff asked, making a face because he didn't want to get too out of practice in case those people were coming for him.

"Lay off the contact for another week, and try to keep any kicks above your waist to a minimum. The muscles around your wound carry a lot of your weight and jerking them around before they have a chance to knit back together could set you back weeks."

Griff sighed like a put-upon kid. "Guess that's a good enough reason, but it's boring as hell."

"Try swimming," Hawkeye suggested. "Being in the water takes the pressure off your back and legs. God knows it's hot enough. I'm thinking about bringing a deck chair in here on my days off to stay in the air conditioning. I can't get the thermostat in my apartment to work the way I want it to. But enough about me, though I could talk for hours. My offer still stands if you want to get the Principal involved. If not, that's your choice and I won't push the issue. That's a big thing for me. Ask anyone who's had to put up with me for more than a week."

Hawkeye kind of amazed Griff with his ability to just keep talking. Maybe it was a doctor thing. "Well...can't say I mind talking to you, but I dunno what good it'd do to get any authorities involved. They'd just have to turn me over to the jerks who put me here in the first place. But thanks for caring, doc. It's...nice."

"Contrary to what the officers back home think of you, you're a good kid, Griff. Don't let a few bozos who let their power go to their heads ruin your ability to trust anyone. And if they show up here, and let's hope they don't because they'll face the wrath of a very defensive student body, and you're in a pinch, don't discount Zoe Winchester. She'll put your needs before theirs. Go on, get out of here. Try not to melt on the way back up the hill."
