Martha had been very grateful for the quiet of the clinic yesterday. They hadn't had many zombies come to try to get in - the nurses had been quite fierce, and Martha could only imagine that word had spread - and the lack of patients had made Martha start to wonder if they'd get through this whole thing with everyone being all right. It was amazing that she still had some optimism left in her, but there it was.

"I've been hearing stories that have made me feel sick just thinking about them," Martha said. "Do you feel unreasonably cold? Any unexplained shaking?"

Only when she remembered yelling at the zombies in Yuuzhan Vong, and that wasn't related.

Tahiri shook her head. "I'm tougher than I look," she said, more to avoid that line of thought than to be a pain. "Just a little groggy, that's all."

Martha gave her a smile. "All right, I think you're right. You are tougher than you look. Make sure you get plenty of rest for the next few days, and if you do feel worse, come straight here so we can take a look at you, all right?"

"Okay," Tahiri agreed, because if it got her out of here sooner, she'd be fine with that. "I might sleep through the next three days as it is."

Martha laughed. "I think that's a good plan."

"Think my teachers will let me get away with it?" she asked with a tired smile.

"I think they might. They had to deal with the zombies too," she pointed out.

"That'd be nice." She looked hopefully at Martha. "I can go now, right?"

"Yes, you can go," Martha said. "I hope you even feel better soon."

Ben was hovering ~~but not literally~~ in the background, giving Tahiri worried glances when he thought she wasn't noticing.

Oh, Tahiri noticed. She was just pretending not to, because it was cute.

When she was free to go she slid down off the bed and went over to him. "See? Told you I was okay."

"I wasn't that worried," he lied.

"Uh huh." He'd gotten her out of the pile of zombies and everything, so she was going to give him a pass for now. "Now can we go?"

"Definitely," Ben said. "I don't want to shower in cold water, and I plan on being in there a long time."

"You and the rest of the school." Tahiri reached up and picked something out of her hair that she didn't want to think about. "I just want to sleep for a really long time."

"Don't look at that," Ben said, making a little face. "I'm going to be happy if people don't throw parts at me for a couple of days."

"Ew." Tahiri tossed it into the trash can without looking. "I can live without doing this ever again. I thought the harpies were bad, but ugh."

"This was a whole new level of ick," Ben agreed, holding the door open for her. "This place is going to reek."

"Worse than Eriadu." She gave him a hesitant smile and headed back out into the hallway. "Hopefully I can find my lightsaber under all that gunk somewhere . . . except I'm starting to think building a new one would be more fun."

"Definitely more hygienic," he replied.

"But I liked that one," Tahiri said with a tiny sigh. There were definite sentimental attachments there.

"We can go looking for it tomorrow?" he suggested.

"If I even wake up. I've barely slept since Wednesday," Tahiri admitted sheepishly. "I want to, though. Find it, I mean."

Ben hadn't slept in a lot longer. Bad things happened when he closed his eyes, so he'd stopped doing it.

"You'd miss Master Atreides' class?" he teased.

And if Tahiri knew that she'd be even more worried.

"Zombies aren't good enough reason?" she asked, mostly joking. Because she honestly didn't want to miss it.
