FTEC -- Sunday, May 25 -- Evening.

Coming in for her evening shift, Adah discovered no other facial features with limbs grafted on them, no ears with arms or lips with tails, so she settled behind the desk to study the same usual viruses and bacterium. Yawn.

Although it was interesting to flip through yesterday's notes and spot out what didn't even make sense to her now, although she figured it had made sense somehow yesterday.

Tomorrow is finally a day off for me. Yaaaaaayz.

After spending some time at the campfire, Lee ended up walking to the clinic. He thought about faking an injury just for fun but, instead, just came in and smiled.

"You work too much."

Adah was slow to respond to the comment, intent on finishing up her current train of thought regarding Coronaviridae. "Too much?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow before finally glancing up with a wry expression. "I work two days a week. Three if you include my TAship. Explain to me how that's too much?"

"Entirely too much," he said, wandering over to the desk. "That only leaves you four days for laziness. So little!"

Adah's head shook lightly. "You'd devote eight days to laziness if given half the chance, wouldn't you?"

"I think it'd be time well spent," he said and leaned against the desk. "It's nice to be lazy. Stimulates the mind."

"Actually," Adah couldn't help but smirk as she pointed out, her drawling tone quite matter-of-fact, "lethargy causes the reticular activating system between the mesencephalon and the myelencephalon to process at a slowed rate, thus causing the brain to dull to a state where it becomes difficult to sustain any sense of concentration, memory, motivation," pause, "or arousal."

"The only thing I understood there was the last word," Lee said. "Everything else was some other language."

The rather pronounced roll of her eyes still couldn't manage to eradicate the smirk on Adah's face. Her head shook, slightly. "At least you understood that much," she commented wryly. "Layman's terms? When you're inactive, your brain is inactive, too. Better?"

"Better," he said. "But, when I'm inactive, my brain could be thinking."

"It could be," Adah agreed, "but the quality of the thoughts could also be quite diminished if the rate of inactivity is particularly strong. Subsequent hours of laziness will make you stupid; it's just proven medical fact, Eel."

She smirked at him again. "And it really does explain a lot. I don't even need to have to cut into your skull to prove that theorem."

"You have such a thing about cutting me open," he said, shaking his head.

"Don't take it personal," Adah lifted her chin with a lofty grin. "It just goes with the profession."

"Course it is," Lee said, not sound entirely convinced. "You don't think you'd want to cut me open if you weren't in the medical profession."

"I wouldn't," Adah informed him with conversational insistence. "What would be the point, besides making a big mess?"

"Scaring me," he pointed out. "Teasing me."

"I can do those without actually making any incisions," Adah pointed out. "That's why I talk about it, not why I'd actually do it."

"You're so mean to me," he said, shaking his head woefully. "So mean."

With another roll of her eyes, it was clear that Adah wasn't buying the act for a moment. She folded her good arm a moment to support her as she leaned a little forward and told him blithely, "And, yet...you just keep coming back for more."

"I'm mean to myself too," he said, smiling at her. "I like the pain."

Adah ruefully shook her head, but, when she sighed, it was a fine balance between exasperated and wistful. "Such," she mused, "a masochist."

"But," he said and leaned a little closer, "I'm cute."

Scrunching up her nose, Adah's head gave a slightly jerking shake. "Details," she said. "Fine, though. Such a cute masochist. Better?"
