FTEC -- Sunday, April 27 -- Evening.

Adah wondered if perhaps she should feel just a bit bad about having just sent the twins off to entertain themselves, but, hey. They were clearly smart kids and it wasn't like there was traffic that they might accidentally play in. Or lions and snakes, for that matter, so, already, she considered herself a better parent than her parents, since they didn't seem to have too much of an issue with letting their children play in the jungle, let alone on a restricted island with lots of actually trustworthy and responsible other people on it.

So she just settled in behind the front desk, sighed deeply, and closed her eyes to enjoy just a bit more time to herself before they inevitably got tired of their ice cream and came back to find her here. Maybe she could think of little things to make them do around the clinic once they returned, too.

And then maybe she could figure out what the hell it meant when Emily had been surprised that Adah limped.

"Hey," he said and shook his head, "I didn't use him as a shield. Merely as a distraction."

"Mmhm," Adah nodded. "And using him to act out your innermost desires of throwing a banana at the Lieutenant."

Adah paused, blinking, straightening slightly.

"And, wow, did that sound Freudian..."

"Yeah, that sounded weird," he said and made a face. "I might have bad dreams about that one."

Adah couldn't help chuckling just a bit. "Sorry about that."

"I don't think you are," Lee said and made a face at her. "You like doing that to me."

Adah just wrinkled her nose back. "If you didn't make it so easy," she argued lightly. "I didn't even think about that one, it just showed up on its own accord."

"Suuuuuure," Lee said, shaking his head. "How are yours acting? Behaving?"

"I've managed to keep them quiet in a clinic room for this long," Adah pointed out, "so I guess I can't complain too much, even if they did attempt to make it seem like Edgar had broken out into hives and Emily talks way too damn much."

Almost enough, Adah thought bitterly to herself, to make her believe that she got a trait like that from a certain eel, but that was an issue she was trying to avoid thinking about too much.

"Edgar and Emily, huh?" He smiled a little at the names. "Mine's called William. Will, after my father, I think."

"Please tell me," Adah said, imploring the Eel a little with a small smirk, "that you do recognize the source of my names by now."

"Poets," he said dryly. "I know your tastes by now. Did you use their last names as middle names too?"

"I have....no idea what their middles names are," Adah admitted, with a shrug of her good shoulder, but she smiled, glad he caught on it. She could never tell with him; sometimes as thick as a boulder, other times he saw through everything she said and did. "And while Edgar Poe Price has a nice ring to it, I don't think I could be sold on Emily Dickinson Price."

"I don't know if William has a nickname," he said thoughtfully. "It's just William...Adama."

"Not a bad name," Adah commented. "Although your father's name, right, so perhaps not a good name, either. You and that traditional streak..."

And thoughts of a traditional streak got the back of Adah's brain tickling on wondering about maternity in the same way she'd been thinking about paternity practically all day. But then she was also thinking of anachronisms, of impossibilities, and it just left her sighing momentarily for the complexity that the situation seemed to inspire.

"Maybe my father and I aren't as bad off there as we are here," Lee said, being hopeful. "Will's happy with the name, at least. And it's better than Lee Jr."

"You've got a point there," Adah said with a light smile. "Either way, neither of us turned out to be very creative in that respect, did we?"

"True," he said and grinned. "I keep wanting to use the excuse that I didn't name him but I really can't with him having my dad's name."

"Well...." Adah hesitated with her response to that one. "It would be a complete possibility that his...mother might have just liked that name in the long run, too, wouldn't it?"

"Could've," Lee said, shrugging. "I didn't really get a chance to ask her yet, what she thought of him let alone his name. He's with her now."

If she felt hesitation with that previous comment, it was nothing to the pause she felt after that. "You mean, she's...someone here?" She may have blanched a little, feeling her spine tighten.

He cleared his throat. "Yeah. It was a surprise to me too."

"Well," Adah commented dryly, "I think the existence of these children in general was a bit of a surprise to most of us. That's definitely got to add a nice punch, though..."

Sucking in a breath, Adah told herself to ignore the little gnawing at the edge of her consciousness, that little nibbling of curiosity, but the increased chewing reminded her too much of red ants. The repeated mantra in her head of don't ask, don't ask, don't ask proved itself futile as she just went ahead and blurted, "Who?"

"I don't know if that's really important," he said hesitantly.

Adah shifted her eyes to the side a little bit in thought before she looked back toward the Eel. "You know it's just going to stick in my head and nag at me and bother me if I don't know."

And then there was another pause, a blink.

"...It's probably going to stick in my head and nag at me and bother me if I do, too, though, most likely, so you're probably right. Damn it."

He shrugged a shoulder. "She's here but we're not together here and we never will be. It's a weird situation."
