FTEC, Friday, March 7 - Day Shift

Christian was late opening the clinic that morning. He'd been up all night tending to a patient on the mainland, showing her what a great bedside manner he had.

Millie stopped by, having handwavily read that the clinic was in need of help since one of their doctors had left. Now Millie made no claims of being a doctor, but she was certainly able to do some healing through the use of her magic.

"Hello," she said with a smile. "Is there someone whom I could speak with about assisting in the clinic?"

"You can speak with me, sweetheart," Christian said, leaning forward and checking Millie out.

Millie grinned at him, possibly not quite understanding what he was doing. "Hello," she said, "my name is Millie and I understand you need some assistance here. I am no doctor, but I can do some healing."

"What kind of healing can you do?" Christian said. He wiggled his fingers. "Got some sort of mojo like the kids here?"

"I'm not sure what 'mojo' is," Millie admitted, "but I am an enchantress and can heal with magic. Small things are easy, but anything too complex can be dangerously draining."

"And what would you do if someone came in who was more injured than you could handle?" Christian asked, just a basic test of common sense.

"I would have a true doctor called immediately and would do whatever I could to keep them stable until one arrived," Millie replied promptly.

"When could you start?" Christian said. "We've got openings Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the day, and Saturday evening. There's always a nurse on duty to help you out. It's generally pretty quiet, even with the constant unexplained comas."

"I am free anytime except Thursday during the day," Millie said. "I would be glad to take any shifts you would like me to have. And I could start as soon as you needed me."

"How about this Monday?" Christian said. "You can take the Monday day shift to start, and we'll see how you do."

"That sounds marvelous," Millie said cheerfully.

"Great," Christian said. "Would you like a tour of the clinic?" Or my pants went unspoken.

"Certainly," sais Millie, completely oblivious to any undertones.

Well... she had been incredibly sheltered. And after her upbringing in the temple she'd ended up in a time about a century ago in England with members of the upper class, of all places.

Christian showed Millie around the exam rooms, pointing out where supplies are kept. "So tell me," he asked when they were finished, "how do your powers work?"

"I could give you a very complex technical explanation that my guardian forced me to learn," Millie said with a smile. "But I'm an enchantress, which means that mostly I just need to think what I want done and it happens."

"For example..." She stretched out a hand and one of the containers of gloves appeared there.

Christian raised an eyebrow. "Realllly," he said. "Bet that comes in handy in the bedroom."

"Oh yes," Millie said cheerfully. "Should I need another cup of tea or a different book of a cold night, it is most handy!"
