FTEC, Tuesday, February 12 - Day Shift

Dr. Troy was still on vacation, so the nurses were in charge. Currently they were watching Hearts 'n' Scalpels and debating if the lead doctor's hair was real or not.

Stan had thought about putting a sign on his office that said "Closed--Gone Fishin'" but figured that would be bad taste. After a lengthy mental debate, that is.

If Billy had still been in the wheelchair, he would not have come in today. He never thought he'd be sorry to not be in the wheelchair.

"Morning, Mr. Kessler," Stan said as he saw the boy enter.

"Pardon me for saying, but you do look a bit worse for wear."

Billy sighed as he sat down. "Yeah, I got shot a week or so ago. Still recovering."

"You seem to be doing well and able for someone shot," he said dryly. "Flesh wound or something more severe?"

Oh, why was it always shootings?

"More severe. I was in the Hospital for several days, in a wheelchair for a week. And I'm not supposed to strain myself for at least a month."

"And I'm sure that you are diligently not straining yourself," Stan said with a nod.

"Nightmares?"

"Not yet. But when my father buried me alive it was a long time before I started having nightmares about that."

"Sometimes it takes time for these things to manifest," he said, with a sigh. "You seem to be holding up fairly well. Any problems so far with staying to the no straining?"

"Well so far I'm just glad to be out of the wheel chair. So, again, not yet. But I won't be surprised if it starts to grate after another week or so."

"It is difficult to be dealing with such an injury. Something relating to previous sessions?" he asked. "Or was this random Fandom events ganging up on you?"

"It was my father." Billy sighed.

"I see," he said, and paused, waiting to see if Billy would continue.

At first, it seemed like he wasn't. Then he said; "Bastard tricked me. Made it look like he was relenting."

"And betrayed you." Question? Statement? Hard to say. He lightly drummed his fingers on the desk.

"Again." Abruptly, Billy pounded on the arm of the couch. "I can't believe I was so stupid."

"I think it's less stupidity than wanting an actual act of reform," Stan stated ~~hoping Billy's dad was less of a prick than Billy made him out to be~~

~~Actually he's probably worse.~~ "After all this time it was naive of me to expect such a thing from him."

"Possibly. Or that you wish your father could be more like yourself, instead of wanting to be more like him," he stated.

"Yeah. That sounds about right. And it nearly got me, and maybe my friends killed."

Stan sighed. "I wish I could say there was an easy solution for this, Mr. Kessler, but I doubt it."

At least it seemed that Billy was taking it well. Or...used to it.

"Do my best to stay away from him." Billy shrugged. "And failing that, kill him before he gets another shot at me."

"It would seem that would be for the best, to try to remove yourself from all contact," he nodded. And did not gloss over the end of that statement at. all.
