Where Katara is.

If the sound of Sam coming into the clinic with Dawn unconscious in his arms didn't get Katara's attention, the way he was yelling might have done the trick.

"Hello?" he yelled. "I need help!"

"And you came to the right place," Katara said, quickly standing up and hurrying towards them. Her eyes widened when she saw Dawn. "What happened?"

"Demon," Sam said quickly. "He attacked her and she--I can't get her to wake up."

Katara reached to touch Dawn's forehead for just a moment. "Come on, Sam, bring her back to an exam room (http://community.livejournal.com/fandom_clinic/440157.html?thread=9701725#t9701725) and I'll check her out. A normal demon or a vampire again?"

It had been a long year that that was a valid question.

Sam followed Katara back to the exam room, and carefully laid Dawn down on the bed. "It was a normal demon, not a vampire," he said. "But if it's the one I think it was, it's a really powerful demon."

Katara frowned fiercely at Sam then looked back to concentrate on Dawn. She pulled a flow of water out of her waterskin.

"These burns will be able to be healed quickly," Katara said after a long moment of passing her hands and the water above Dawn to feel her chi. "But the injury to her head. I'm not sure. We might just have to wait for her spirit to come back."

Sam nodded mutely as he watched Katara, and went to the other side of the bed to take Dawn's hand. "Just...do what you can, please."

She gave Sam a nod. "Don't worry. She'll be okay. We'll make sure of it."

Katara looked back down at Dawn, breathing deeply to concentrate. The burns disappeared slowly as she focused on straightened the chi to flow more clearly. She concentrated on the chi imbalance in Dawn's head for a moment but quickly realised that it was that her spirit was gone to the spirit world. It would come back. It had to.

Letting the water flow back into the skin, Katara nodded at Sam again. "She should stay here until she wakes up. I'm going to get her dressed in a gown and start an IV so she doesn't dehydrate. You're going to stay with her?"

Sam watched Katara work, hoping that as the burns went away, Dawn would wake up. His sigh was audible when nothing happened, and he had to remind himself that she was better, and soon she'd be better still. It had to be soon.

"Of course," Sam said, like any other option was insane. "I'm not going anywhere."

"Good," she said, completely unsurprised that was the answer. "Are you okay? You didn't get hurt at all?"

Sam shook his head. "No, I'm fine. By the time I got there, he was gone."

"Good job Dawn," Katara murmured. She turned back to start to make Dawn more comfortable. "Sometimes the spirit just needs a bit of time before it finds its way out of the spirit world," she said, intending to be reassuring. "She'll be back in a few days."

Sam gave Katara a weak smile. "Her spirit's probably arguing with the other ones right now about how to get back the fastest," he said. "Thank you for helping her, with your water and everything. That's really impressive."

Dean had immediately started for the clinic the second he'd got the frantic, somewhat incoherent phone call from Sammy about Dawn. So it wasn't long after that he was bursting into the exam room, out of breath. "Sammy?"

Sam was still sitting next to Dawn, holding her hand and watching her like he could will her back to consciousness when Dean came in. "Hey," he said, glancing back just long enough to see him before turning back to Dawn.

"How is she?" Dean asked quietly coming over and resting a hand on his brother's shoulder.

"Better," Sam replied. "When I found her, she...she was burned, pretty bad. But Katara healed her."

"Crap. Well, at least she wasn't on the ceiling..." It was a piss poor attempt at humour and made even worse by the way his voice cracked as he said it.

It was an attempt at humor that just made Sam's stomach hurt more as he tightened his grip on Dawn's hand. "It was him, Dean. I know it was, it had to be," he said.

"Yeah." It was all he could say.

"What if I didn't get there in time? If my vision had been just a few minutes later..." Sam trailed off.

"It wasn't," Dean said, squeezing Sammy's shoulder. "And you did."

Dean's words were at least a little comforting, and Sam felt himself relaxing slightly in his chair. "I don't understand why he'd go after Dawn. We're just going to work harder to keep Zoe and Grace safe now."

"I called Dad before I came -- told him what you told me. Told him to stay with Zoe and Gracie. I don't want them left alone."

"Of course not," Sam said. "I...I'm going to stay here. I'm not leaving Dawn alone either."

"Wouldn't expect you to, Sammy." Dean pulled up another chair and sat down beside him.

"You don't have to stay," Sam said. "This isn't the most comfortable place."

"Yeah, I do," Dean said.

Sam thought about protesting, but honestly, he didn't think he'd mind the company right now. "Thanks," he said quietly. "It'll be good if Dawn wakes up to see the both of us."

"Absolutely," Dean said, reaching out to squeeze Sammy's shoulder again.

"Do you think she'll be mad at me?" Sam asked, before he could lose the nerve to voice his concern.

"No!" Dean told him emphatically.

"I tried to keep her safe, I swear I did," Sam said, like Dean's response wasn't fully convincing.

"I know, Sammy." Dean slid an arm around his brother, pulling him closer.

Sam sighed, and let his head rest on Dean's shoulder. "Tell me she's going to be okay. Please?"

"Course she is," Dean said with all the confidence he could muster.

Sam nodded and relaxed a little more. If Dean said it, it would have to be true.

Cause that's what goes here.
