FTEC, Sunday Evening

A rainy evening meant Stark was perfectly content to sit inside the clinic. Not that he wasn't normally content to be there, provided there wasn't an abundance of injuries. The rain just meant it was nicer to be inside than out.

Where you will find an alien, who is probably slightly bored.

And a Conner, who was pacing. A lot.

"Is it helping?" Stark asked. "The pacing? Sometimes it does. Not always."

Conner shrugged. "It's better than sitting still and going crazy?"

He was probably talking to the wrong person about that subject.

"That's usually why I do it, too." He was, at least, well-versed in trying not to go crazy.

"Sometimes it helps to just stop everything though. Even thinking."

"Oh, like I even thi --" Not the best thing to say, perhaps. "I'm not really good at not doing anything at all."

"It's hard to do. It helps though, when it works. But trying to keep busy so you don't have to think is easier."

"Does trying to make sure my girlfriend doesn't try to break out of the clinic count as keeping busy?" he asked. "'cause that's a full-time job. Just not a very active one." Hence, pacing.

"Yes. But probably not the kind of keeping busy that means you don't have to think. Since you have to think about keeping her from escaping."

That was true. Maybe that was why he was so tired?

"Luckily, she hasn't so far," Conner conceded. "Which is a good thing. Don't blame her for getting restless . . . been thinking I should maybe get one of the healer-types to speed things up a bit. Maybe if I actually do Shawn's laundry . . ."

"Doing someone's laundry will help her heal faster?"

"No, I mean . . . I promised Shawn I'd do his laundry for helping me out on a couple of mission-type things, and I sort of haven't gotten around to it yet. And I feel like I should follow through on that before I ask for more favors, you know?"

"Oh. But it isn't really a favor for you. Or not just for you. Maybe he would do it anyway, since it's for her? Or you could try the laundry. Or do extra laundry."

Conner suppressed a little internal whimper at the thought of spending that much Quality Time (tm) with the laundry room, but he nodded. "Yeah. He's friends with her too. Maybe he won't object too much, but I better do the extra laundry just to be sure."

"Or you could try just asking. Sometimes that works too."

Conner stuck his tongue out. "Don't make sense, Stark."

Stark grinned. "Usually everyone tells me I'm not making sense. I thought it might be time for a change."

". . . you're evil. Brilliant, but still evil."

Where you will find Gwynn, who is probably very bored and plotting escape.
