Stark was in the clinic for his regular shift because, well, it was his regular shift. And because there were new people on the island who were bound to get hit on the head sooner or later, just like everyone else had done. He was hoping he wouldn't be meeting any new students or teachers due to injury, but it never hurt to be prepared.
