Christian appeared a few minutes later. Looked like Annette had upped her attempts to find excuses to come to the clinic, but he kept that thought to himself. "How are you feeling?" he asked.
"Not very good," she said honestly. "But I'm ready to leave. I have finals. I just need to know when to come back so the stitches can be removed." She hated looking a mess in front of Dr. Troy, but really, there was nothing she could do about it.
She frowned, "Can the stitches get wet? I really need a shower."
Christian checked Annette's chart. "I suppose I can let you go, but you need to take it easy for a few days. Stitches can be removed in two weeks. Don't get them wet."
Surely someone could help wash her hair for her, around the stitches. That could work, couldn't it?
Annette looked utterly miserable. "This wrapping around my ribs has come loose because I was itching at it last night. Will you rewrap it so I can get dressed, and Dr. Troy, please tell me you will send me with something for the pain, and maybe to help me sleep?"
Christian left the room for a moment and returned with two small bottles with a week's supply of sleeping pills and prescription strength naproxen. "Yes, you can," he said. "But you'll need to rest for a few days."
"I--there are other students with prosthetic limbs?" Stanley shook his head, resumed his professional manner. "How has your week been excepting this point?"
