FTEC - Wednesday Day Shift 4/18

Look children, Parliment, Big Ben.

Wilson was back in the clinic bright on Wednesday morning. He had a super strong red eye coffee but he was back. It had been awhile since he'd turned around two shifts so close together but he knew it was merely a question of getting used to it again.

He had no idea what the angel was plotting back at Minotaur.

Willow came into the clinic in the ~~zomg can't say weesmall~~ way early hours of the morning. She looked uncertainly to see who was on duty that day.

Wilson was thinking about cookie baking ~~SNIFF weesmall!~~ and so seemed to be staring off into space but he quickly came to attention when he heard the door close and turned to smile at Willow.

"Good morning, Willow."

Willow gave a little wave. "Hey Dr. Wilson. How's it going?"

"It's going okay," Wilson said and then, with a slightly rueful expression he admitted.

"Kinda missing my grandson and all the little neices and nephews I had running around this weekend but otherwise good. What brings you down here today?"

"Um... kinda that," Willow admitted. She cleared her throat. "Recent events have brought up a Fandom-related medical question."

There was enough of a clue lurking just over Wilson's head that he had an inkling of what might be coming but with Willow, as with Fandom, it was best never to assume.

"I'm pretty good with questions. Do you want to ask it back in one of the squirrel proof exam rooms?"

"Yes!" Willow said immediately. "I mean - um - not that I don't love the little guys but you know how it is."

Wilson smiled warmly and stood up. Grabbing his coffee he waved towards the hallway.

"Come on back, exam one (http://community.livejournal.com/fandom_clinic/315020.html?thread=8058508#t8058508) is empty. We can talk there."

Wilson held the door open for Willow and as she stepped through he was careful to close it behind him.

"Okay, so...question me," he offered with a smile, waving Willow towards the exam table for a seat.

"Would you be able to tell if you'd been pregnant for only three days?" Willow asked.

Luckily, having had Willow in one of his classes, Wilson was able to speak...well... Willow and didn't take her question literally. Because he damn well hoped he'd be able to tell if he was pregnant!

Sitting down on the rolley stool, he gave her a gentle, sympathetic smile and shook his head.

"I'm sorry, Willow but even the tests I could administer here, have a sensitivity good at earliest, 7-10 days after conception."

"No no no," Willow said. "I don't mean three days like whoo boy prom night was fun for me - though it w... uh, never mind that. I mean three days like boop! Pregnant then boop! Not so much."

[ooc: leaving for lunch soon, will be afk for about an hour when that happens]

That silence you heard was Wilson's brain breaking, knitting itself back together, breaking again and getting mopped up and into a bucket.

"Uh, like...while the future children were here? You had one that was...shall we say...quite a bit younger than the ones we saw running around?"

"I don't know," Willow admitted. "But one of my kids said there was another one on the way and if this was a reasonably new development how would I know if that kid snuck in for a few days, yanno?"

Giving himself a mental smack so as to get over his own inner flailings, Wilson leaned his arms on his knees and gave Willow a calm, 'I'm a professional and it's okay to talk about these things' expression as he answered her question.

"Well, to be honest Willow it would depend upon how far along you were in the pregnancy. Since you're curious, I'm going to guess you were early stages, as the second or third trimester would have been very noticable. When you're pregnant your body undergoes a lot of changes as it adapts itself to the job of nurturing a healthy baby. One of the first indicators is marked tenderness in the breasts, you might also have felt inexplicably fatigued, certain oders might have seemed particularly displeasing, to the point of making you sick to your stomach, where maybe they'd never bothered you before. Same thing with certain foods."

He tilted his head and gave her a reassuring smile.

"Did you notice any changes like that over the past three days?"

Willow thought about it. "I did feel tired, but then again I was suddenly the mother of four and a half, so that could be part of it."

"Okay so that symptom might not be applicable in this case. How about some of the others?"

"Does Seely's cologne count for displeasing smells, or does that have to be weekend-specific?"

"Err, it would be specific to the three days you think you might have been," Wilson gestured with his hand making the classic rounded tummy motion.

"Oh." Willow thought about it some more. "No, I don't think there was anything. So - so you think that means I was just me? No visitors who were very small and sneaky?"

Wilson chuckled softly and looked up at Willow with a kind smile.

"Willow, look in your heart. Do you feel like you had any very small and sneaky visitors?"

Because often times, mother's instinct was more accurate than medicine.

"No," Willow admitted. She wrapped her arms around her stomach. "Figured it couldn't hurt to check though, yanno?"

"Well, as the sure fire ways to shall we say check aren't particularly pleasant, I think maybe you might want to go with your gut on this one. Though if you notice anything out of the ordinary, unusual pain in your abdomen or if your next cycle is markedly unlike your normal monthly mense, come in and we can do a more thorough check up."

Wilson honestly didn't anticipate there being a problem but he wasn't about to suggest some of the more invasive and uncomfortable procedures that could be done to ensure err ... lack of small sneaky visitors to Willow's....

Wilson's brain stopped right there and refused to go any further.

Willow appreciated Wilson's brain being a gentleman. Or she would if she knew about it, but knowing about it would've ruined the entire point so just as well, really.

As for what Wilson had said - she didn't know how she felt about that.

"Okay," she said. "I will. Because I was wondering about that too. I mean I'm on the pill and all but I kinda know how magic does the wacky in ways science can't always catch up with."
