FTEC, Monday, March 19

Elliot did a quick set of rounds -- and was happy to see Ami Mizuno was finally awake -- made sure everything in the clinic seemed to be in order, and then settled in behind the desk with a large coffee and a crossword puzzle, which she was completing in ink.

The clinic was open.

"Heya!" John said. "I'm appearing to suffer from acute Ami-itis. Mind if I visit her?"

"She's actually finally getting out of prison," Elliot said dryly. "If you wait here, she should be dressed and ready to go in a few."

"That's great! I'm sure it's all because of you guys. Quality wardens, not too much time in the hole."

"Can she walk? Does she need help?"

"The IV stuff she was on isn't much better than bread and water, though," Elliot said. "She's actually in really good shape for how long she was out, and she's walking fine. Make sure she takes it slow for now, and don't let her carry anything on the way back to campus."

Once she was dressed and ready, Ami slowly walked out into the lobby. "Hey John!"

The door of the clinic rocked back under its own power just before Anakin came in carrying Rory.

The man knew how to make an entrance.

"Hello?" he called.

Rory was starting to fade back into blackness, and dropped her head heavily against his shoulder. Her eye was beginning to swell and turn a particularly unflattering shade of eggplant, and the bleeding from her nose was beginning to subside.

Anakin pulled her a little closer. "Rory," he said sharply, trying to get her attention, "stay awake a little longer."

She made a soft little noise of protest, keeping her eyes shut.

Luke came bursting into the clinic minutes after getting Anakin's call.

"What's wrong?" he demanded, staring at his father.

Anakin moved further away from Rory's exam room where he'd been giving his best shot towards wearing a path in the floor.

"She's been beaten rather badly," he said quietly. Something very, very angry sparked in the back of his eyes.

All of the color drained from Luke's face and he took a step towards the room. "What happened?" he asked.

Anakin face went blankly unreadable. "Someone hit her hard enough to break her nose," he said. "I'll deal with that." He checked his chrono. "I need to teach a class soon. Will you stay here until I get back?"

Ami was awake, and functional, and sort of wanted to get unhooked from all the IV things that tethered her.

"You look way better now that you're awake," Elliot announced. "How are you feeling?"

"I feel way better, now that i am awake." Ami smiled. "I feel fairly fine actually... do you think i could go to classes today?"

Elliot walked over and unhooked Ami from the monitors. "Maybe," she said cautiously. "People don't usually hop out of bed and get right back to normal life after a coma. We couldn't give you much physical therapy because we're so small -- could you try to stand, slowly, and show me that you can move your arms and legs? Hold onto the bed for balance."

Rory groaned and shifted a little on the gurney, clearly not all that cognizant of her surroundings but nonetheless somewhat conscious.

Anakin stood in the corner of the exam room, trying not to look like he was hovering nervously.

He failed rather completely at it.

Elliot was too involved in her work to be especially reassuring. She propped Rory's head on some pillows, then did a quick check of her blood pressure and pulse. "Her vitals are fine," she muttered, mostly to herself. "Clear lung sounds. Good."

She went to get an ice pack, returning to apply it to Rory's eye. "If you can hear me," she said, slowly and clearly, "Raise a hand."
