Clinic, Monday Night

Janet was in the clinic, ready for patients. She certainly wasn't laying her head on the front desk. And she certainly wasn't napping. At all.

Billy came in, and balked at waking Janet. The bite on his ankle wasn't serious after all.

Janet? Had generally very good hearing. She bolted upright, pretending not to be startled, and stifled a yawn. "Oh, hi, Billy!"

"Hey Janet, sorry to wake you."

Janet grinned sheepishly. "I probably shouldn't have been sleeping while on duty," she said. "So what's wrong."

"Well I got bit by a Gremlin this afternoon, and, I don't think it occured to me to do anything about it while I was someone else. This was the closest place that might have bandaids or something."

"Gremlin bite?" asked Janet, her eyes widening. "Uh, Billy, are you hallucinating at all? Because gremlin venom has very unpredictable side effects."

"No I just finished hallucinating." Billy said. "Unless people can have flashbacks?"

"Not that I've ever heard of, anyway," said Janet, breathing a sigh of relief. "I take it you're here to have the wound cleaned and bandaged, then?"

"Yeah. Mr. Kaufman didn't seem to notice the wound. Or the missing eye and leg."

Janet studied Billy. "Mr. Kaufman isn't very observant, is he?"

"He pretty much lives in his own little world." Billy agreed. "He didn't think it was strange that people called him Billy, even though he was pretty sure he'd never been a Billy."

"This whole place is strange enough that maybe he thought it was normal," said Janet.

"Well he kind of thought it was just another identity for him. Have you ever heard of Andy Kaufman?"

"Hasn't everyone?" asked Janet. She got up and started getting materials together.

"That's who I thought I was."

Janet's mouth twitched as she tried not to snicker. "Oh, no, really?" she asked. "Let's go into Exam One and I'll get that cleaned up for you."

"Really." Billy said as he followed Janet. "It wore off just as I was finishing performing in Caritas."

"Sometimes you scare me, Billy," said Janet, sounding not at all frightened, and more amused. "Hop up on the bed."

"Me too." Billy muttered. Once he was up on the bed, he pulled his pant leg up. "Have you ever been bitten?"

"Once," said Janet, getting a tub and flushing the wound with saline. "I hallucinated that everyone had been possessed by aliens. My girlfriend talked me down."

Billy was given pause at the girlfriend remark, but only in an `oh, I didn't know that` kind of way. "Yikes. Give me eccentric performance artists anyday. That sounds terrifying."

"You don't know the half of it," muttered Janet. She daubed some antibiotics gently on the wound. "I'd rather have been humiliated. It'd be much more fun. Relatively speaking."

Billy wasn't even feeling all that embarresed. He knew it wasn't technically his fault, and it had actually been kinda fun. Wasn't like he'd become dangerous. "Yeah. It was kinda fun."
