FTEC, Wednesday Night, 3 January
Last night, Natalie made herself busy in the lab, careful not to disturb Dr. Wilson's visitors. Tonight, she was sitting at the front desk, watching-but-not-watching The Final Warrior on American Movie Classics. She wondered when they started showing commercials. And, if she was honest with herself, she was definitely trying to avoid the angel. Yes, she had treated him. No, they weren't out to kill each other. Despite this, she still felt decidedly awkward.
But she still had a job to do.
Damn it.
Putting down the remote, she headed for the first exam room, the good doctor's medical chart in hand.
After checking on her lone patient, she embedded herself in the lab. She really needed a better coping mechanism...

Exam 1, (Dr.) James Wilson
Re: Exam 1, (Dr.) James Wilson
And the wailing from the black water just in front of him, seemed so much louder. Wilson turned towards the sea and looked out across it's vast nothingness.

He'd probably awaken at the slightest noise, but despite his expectations to the contrary, the angel did finally drop off.
Exam 1, (Dr.) James Wilson - Very Very Late at Night
She brushed a hand just above Aziraphale's shoulder, not wanting to wake him, but hoping that the near touch would somehow express some of her caring to him as he slept. She quietly pulled up a chair on the other side of Dr. Wilson, gently adjusting the blanket covering him and touching his hand.
"Hi, Dr. Wilson," she said very softly. She talked to him for a few minutes, then found the book she'd been reading from the night before. "Anyone else read this while I was gone?" she asked. "No? Well, then, let's pick up where we left off." She settled herself in and began to read again, planning to continue until her voice gave out.

He could hear a voice and after a little bit of time he recognized it as Lana's. From the pitch and cadance, it sounded like whatever she had been talking about last night, she was talking about again tonight. He couldn't here exact words but the tone was soothing and it made him smile.
Made him smile and distracted his attention away from the blackness of the sea at his back. Instead, he found himself reliving memories of times with Lana, such as the infamous Kama Sutra book in Phale's bookstore. It made him smile.

Her quiet voice did him as much good as it did Wilson, and before long he'd dropped off again, continuing in a light sleep for as long as Lana stayed, and only awakening again when she slipped out in the wee hours of the morning.

After observing the doctor for a few silent moments, he reached for his wrist, pulling off a small silver bell attached to a chain. It jingled quietly as he moved to hang it on the headboard of the hospital bed.
Re: Exam 1, (Dr.) James Wilson
He had heard that little jingle a number of times as he'd been carefully picking through the silver bells, looking for just the right one to give to Lucifer. In the tangle of his subconscious, he didn't immediately connect it with the idea that the devil might be there, in the room with his physical body but rather the sound made him think of Lucifer and that alone made him smile softly to his subconscious self.
For a time, the soft tinkle of the bell and the thoughts that came with it, chased down the dark screams from the sea at his back.

He turned and left the room as quietly as he had entered, stopping in the doorway to whisper, "Heal quickly."
