FTEC, Sunday Evening

Stark had had an odd sort of day. He was looking forward to the usual quiet of the clinic for his shift and was relieved to find all exam rooms empty when he arrived. He settled in at the desk, turned the TV on for the noise, and took out some Cross Species Communication vocabulary to look over.




[But I am totally botherable if anyone wants to stop by and entertain me.]

The Doctor wandered into the clinic, like he was apt to do.

"If I said this was an emergency, what would you do?"

"Ask what sort of emergency you meant," Stark said. "Why? Have you got one? An emergency?"

"Well, no," the Doctor admitted. "I could try and come up with one, though."

Stark gave the Doctor a very odd look.

"Oh. Why would you do that?"

"A good way to pass an evening?" the Doctor offered.

"Could be," Stark admitted. "Do you do that often then? Make up emergencies and run into clinics to entertain anyone who happens to be in there?"

"Not usually, no," the Doctor admitted. "But I had to come up with something after my miniature windmill was cruelly attacked yesterday."

Stark blinked. "Your what was cruelly attacked?"

"Miniature windmill," the Doctor repeated. "Like you get at miniature golf places? Exactly like, in fact."

"Miniature golf," Stark echoed. "That's a game, yes? Never seen miniature golf. Or full-size golf. Were you trying to play?"

"Sort of," the Doctor said. "It was a bit of a practice of Plutonian Zen Mini-Golf, on the whole. But it all went a bit wrong."

"What happened?" Stark asked, deciding it was best to pretend he had the faintest idea what the Doctor was on about.

"Nadia Santos came and smashed my windmill with a stick," the Doctor said, succinctly.

"Did the windmill deserve it?" Stark couldn't help but ask. "I saw Nadia earlier. She didn't smash anything with any sticks, that I saw. But she was very odd."

"The windmill had done nothing but exist," the Doctor said. "Nothing at all."

"Can you fix it?" Stark asked. "Did she think it was something else? Because," he added, "she thought, Nadia did, she thought I was a princess."

How he managed to say that with a straight face, Stark had no idea.

The Doctor blinked for a second.

Then started laughing.

Stark had already been close to a laughing fit for most of the day. Now he really had no choice but to join in the laughter.
