FTEC - Wednesday Day Shift [10/25]

Today it was a pumpkin spice latte, as that sort of seemed quite the Fall thing to enjoy on a crisp October morning. He'd teased Phale mercilessly about hooking up with the town Nun and then escaped before the angel could throw anything at him and was generally in a good mood as he opened the clinic and slipped on inside.

Setting his briefcase down on the desk, Wilson started the coffee pot -Sumatra today!- and then slipped down the hall to check in on Zuko, picking up the boy's chart to read through it for any new notes.

Coming back up front, Wilson tugged his laptop and some journals he was working on out of the soft sided briefcase and sat down behind the desk, in short order he was engrossed in an article on Tumoricidal activity of a novel anti-human DR5 monoclonal antibody without hepatocyte cytotoxicity and taking notes for his own rebuttal.

[ooc: Feel free to save him from the article, attack the coffee or even come in with medical needs! Keeps me from building little rubber band balls here at work! :D]

Checking on the last round of notes, Wilson realized he didn't need to disturb Zuko if the young man was still asleep, so he cracked the door in case Zuko needed him but otherwise left their remaining patient alone.

Having slept for most of the week by now, Zuko was actually pretty awake. Which kind of sucked as it also meant he was bored.

At a point a little later in the morning, Wilson happened to come down for a quick bed check, knocking lightly on the door, he smiled as he saw Zuko was awake.

"Good morning."

Zuko nodded in reply. He didn't remember anything of the evening he was brought in so he recognised Wilson mostly as the guy who had given him detention. "You're a teacher," he stated.

"I am." Wilson agreed, pleased to see Zuko awake and alert.

"How are you feeling today?"

"Better," Zuko admitted, still confused as to why a teacher was visiting him.

Nodding, Wilson carefully tracked Zuko's stats as they had been monitored through the past few days by the other doctors, then made a couple notes of his own on the file.

"If we keep trending towards better." He said with a smile. "I'll put a note here to suggest release for tomorrow morning? Is there someone who can pick you up and walk back to the school with you?"

"No," Zuko said stubbornly, which should have been expected. "I can manage on my own."

"Mmmm, not so much." Said Wilson in a calm tone. "I can call up to the school and have security come down and escort you back to your room if necessary."

Zuko considered arguing that he wasn't a student there anymore, but he had the sneaking suspicion that Wilson might keep him around longer if he knew what he was planning to do. "That won't be necessary. I'll find someone."

"Excellent." Wilson said, looking back down at the file and making a note. "I'll let Dr. Troy know that they'll check in with him before he checks you out tomorrow. There's a phone by your bed so call whomever you need to, just let me know their name and I'll add it to your chart."

Looking back up he smiled. "Looks better in the notes than 'Hey you'. All right, I'll send the nurse in with something a little better than your regular hospital fare for you to eat and if you need me, just give a hollar."

"Okay," Zuko nodded and wondered if anyone would notice if he burned the charts and just snuck out on his own. He had the feeling they might. "I like chinese food,e he said hopeful."

Quite likely they would, besides, Wilson was taking the chart with him.

"I think we can accomadate." He said with a grin and a nod, before stepping out into the hall and giving the nurse directions to get an order of Chinese for their remaining guest.

Before she headed to the school, Zoe stopped by the clinic. Lorelai's voicemail had mentioned that Zuko was here, and she felt the need to check on him after their last conversation. She looked to see if he was awake before heading into the exam room.

Zuko had gone back to reading the book Peter had brought him the other day. He looked up when Zoe entered the room. To say he was surprised was an understatement. "Principal Washburn."

"Zuko," she replied, standing at the end of his bed. "I was wondering if you'd still be here. There are some people at the school who were worried about you."

"The doctor said I'm allowed to leave tomorrow," Zuko replied. "Did Gwynn talk to you? I told her she shouldn't."

"No, I received a call from one of your teachers, Ms. Gilmore-Danes? She was worried when you weren't in class." Zoe looked at him appraisingly. "Can I ask what happened?"

Zuko thought it was obvious what had happened considering their last conversation. "I found my sister."

"I figured as much," Zoe replied. "But you're still alive. Does that mean she is too?"

"She escaped," he said. "I think she believes I'm dead or she would have shown up to finish her work by now."

"Is that a good thing? I mean, if she doesn't come back, then you're safe." Zoe wished she could understand how all of this worked for Zuko, if only to help him.

"It buys me time until she realises her mistake," Zuko paused and glanced down at his hands. "It probably won't last long. I need to go home and find my uncle."

"So, does that mean you really are leaving school?" She was willing to let her disappointment show with that statement.

"I have to," he replied. "My uncle was the only person who knew I was here. If she found me..." He trailed off, remembering his conversation with Peter.

"What about your father?" Zoe asked. "Doesn't he know you're here? That's where your Parent's Weekend invitations were sent."

Zuko's eyes widened. "You invited him?"

"We invited everyone who's listed as a parent, guardian, or other contact. So, yes, we did."

His shoulders sagged and he looked relieved for a moment. "Then maybe he sent her and she didn't get to my uncle after all."

Zoe smiled softly. "Maybe. Would that be a better cause for her to have been here?"

"Better is a big word, but it might mean my uncle is all right," Zuko looked up at her. "My father is not interested in my well being at this time. I would appreciate it if he is taken from the records."

"All right. I'll make sure that's done as soon as I get back," she promised him.

Zuko nodded his thanks before going quiet, letting what Zoe had just told him catch up with him. If his uncle really was alright, that meant that he would probably be disappointed if Zuko left Fandom without achieving his goal.

"I do not suppose that you might reconsider my withdrawel from the school?" he asked.

"That's a possibility," Zoe said. "I get the feeling that you weren't thinking clearly when you asked to leave school, and so I'm willing to ignore your request. But, you can't try to quit again, or I might not be so lenient next time."

"I did not expect an outcome where I would be in a position to stay," Zuko said honestly.
