FTEC, Monday Day Shift
Granny was laid out in Exam Room Two, clutching a sign that said "I ATEN'T DEAD".

"Is this whole 'there's either a problem or there's not' a boy thing? Or a butler thing? Or a Walter Dornez thing?"
She shrugged.
"Human beings aren't machines, Walter. You can't take a tool kit to them and fix what's wrong. Nothing about me's been repaired, so to speak. But, I'm still here. That'll have to be enough, for now."

"If things aren't working with you, you're the only person to fix it, right? Your friends will listen, but we don't know your mind."
He certainly didn't know Seras' mind.

She looked up and managed another smile.
"Thanks, Walter," she said, "I know I was pretty much the Oxford definition of 'useless' on Saturday. And, when no one came to see me, even to let me know that everything turned out okay, I was starting to think..."
She trailed off and started to flip through the crossword puzzle book.

"Just as well, really. I was too dizzy to really sit up and my nose wouldn't stop bleeding. I was a mess..."
She cleared her throat.
"I really hate hospitals."

He shrugged. "But if you feel that you're better off here, you're better off here."

"I'm going to give it one more day in the clinic," she said, "That way I won't need to bother people in the dorms."

"That's good of you. Thanks. And, thanks for the books and for coming to see me as well."
She sighed.
"It looks as though I'm going to have to take a raincheck on my swing lesson," she said, sounding genuinely disappointed.

Seras shrugged.
"I'll do my best."
