Tommy took his shift in his usual up with people kind of manner. Lilly and Allie were still around. Lilly was still dead which Tommy assumed meant something good. Allie -

Tommy felt bad about Allie.

Hard to judge that by his demeanor though.

Allie's pain is starting to subside. She's still on pain meds, but not as many, so she can stay awake a little longer.

Around lunchtime, Bel came by to visit Allie. He lingered in the doorway, barely controlling his rage at what his mother had done to her.

Allie turned her head when she sensed someone in the doorway.

"Bel!" she exclaimed. "You're not in jail."

"Yeah," he said, trying to smile. "They let me go. Didn't have enough evidence to hold me." He stepped into the room.

"Well good," Allie said seriously. "I know you didn't hurt me," she added.

"Good," Bel said, relieved. He sat down next to her bed. "I think I know who did do it, though, and I'm going to make them pay, I promise."

Allie frowned slightly. "Just... be careful, okay?"

"I will," Bel said. "I'm just sorry you got caught up in this. You got hurt because you're my friend."

"It's not your fault," Allie insisted. "Don't apologize."

"It is my fault," Bel said in frustration. "If you hadn't been with me that night you wouldn't be in the clinic right now."

"I won't hold you responsible for someone else's actions, Bel," Allie told him.

"Thanks," Bel said. "But I still feel bad that you got hurt. How are you feeling now?"

"A little better," she said. "The pain isn't as bad. I sleep a lot though."

"They treating you good here?"

Allie nodded. "Yeah, I was out of it until Saturday, but I've had a few visitors and the doctors are all really nice."

"Any idea when they're going to let you out?" Bel asked.

"No. I guess not until I'm off the pain meds," she said.

"I hope it's soon," Bel said. "After all, we have finals coming up." He gave her a grin.

"I hope I can catch up," Allie said. "Did you get to give our presentation in Soc the other day?"

Bel shook his head. "They were kinda postponed I guess. And then I wasn't in class for a few days."

"I'm sure Dr. Grissom will understand," Allie said with a shrug. She looked at Bel thoughtfully. "How come they decided to let you out?"

"I need to talk to Dr. Grissom about that," Bel said. "The sheriff told me there was forensic evidence that I didn't do it, so they had to let me go. He's the only one I know who could've pulled off something like that since Ms. Sidle is gone."

"Forensic evidence is good," Allie said. "You should talk to Veronica, too," she suggested. "She told me she was going to try to help you."

"Veronica? Veronica Mars?"

Allie nodded. "Yeah, she came to see me," her brow furrowed as she tried to remember, "the other day," she finally said. "Don't remember exactly which day."

"Guess the radio was right and she wasn't lying when she said she was trying to help me," Bel said. "Wonder what her boyfriend thinks of that. We don't exactly get along."

"Dunno," Allie said with a shrug. "I'm just glad they let you out. I was surprised that no one ever came to ask me if I saw anything."

"I've learned the law in this town works a little differently from what most people may be used to," Bel said with a shrug.

"Given all the weird stuff in this town? That shouldn't really surprise us," Allie said, stifling a yawn.

"You look like you could use some rest," Bel said. "I should get back to the dorms. I just wanted to see how you were doing."

"Thanks," she said. "I am kind of sleepy. I'll see you later."

Bel gave Allie a friendly, gentle pat on the hand. "See you soon," he said, leaving the room so she could sleep.
