When Christian got word that Janet was running late and the clinic wasn't open, he came in to do it himself. He wanted to check on Lilly anyway so it wasn't much of a bother.

Allie was sort of awake after Dr. Troy had stopped by to check on her and give her more pain meds.

Veronica entered the exam room as quietly as possible, not wanting to disturb Allie if she was sleeping.

"Who's there?" Allie asked without turning her head. The pain was slightly less than it had been yesterday, but she was still trying not to move too much.

"It's Veronica Mars. I just wanted to stop by and see how you were doing," Veronica said softly.

"Okay, I guess," Allie replied.

Veronica sat down next to the bed and gently took the other girl's hand.

"I've been attacked a few times," Veronica shared. "So if you need to talk about anything, I will gladly listen."

Allie turned her head just enough so she could meet Veronica's eyes. "I'm scared," she admitted in a low voice. "Scared and confused and everything hurts."

Veronica nodded, realizing that Allie was talking about more than just physical pain. "I understand," she assured her. "Do you remember what happened to you?"

"I was at Luke's with Bel, working on a Sociology project," she said. "He left to go to a meeting and I ran into Nadia and Pippi and stopped to talk for a few minutes. Then I started walking back to the dorms. Everything's a little fuzzy after that until yesterday."

Veronica felt her stomach sink when Allie mentioned that Bel left her to go to a meeting, but it didn't sound like he had told her who he was meeting or where, so that was a definite plus. "So you don't remember anything about the person that attacked you?" she asked carefully.

"Not really," Allie admitted. "But I know it wasn't Bel," she added confidently. "He's always been nice to me and he promised me when I first found out he was a demon that he would never hurt me."

"Have you ever seen him in his demon form?" Veronica asked.

"No, but I trust him," Allie answered. "And I remember thinking that the thing attacking me was some heartless monster and I just know it wasn't Bel."

Veronica decided against mentioning that she had seen Bel in action. "Are you certain?"

"Yes."

There was a conviction behind that one syllable that Veronica couldn't help but believe.

"Are you going to help him?" Allie asked, remembering stories she had heard about Veronica.

Veronica sighed. "I'm going to try," she confided. "But you have to keep that between us, okay? I can't help him if people know I'm trying."

Allie nodded and then winced in pain.

"Get some rest, okay?" Veronica said, gently squeezing Allie's hand. "And if you ever need anyone to talk to, don't hesitate to call me."
