It's noon before he makes it to the clinic.

His last day.

He's sitting at the desk, with a cup of coffee and Johnny Cash on the radio. He'd brought Cash in from town, and the pup in on the floor chewing on a rawhide bone.

Dr is in. Come say goodbye. He's on slowtime unil this evening

He always was kind of awkward at these things. Anders shifted from foot to foot for a few seconds before awkwardly holding the wrapped package (a framed photograph of himself and Kara on the Pyramid court) out. "Hey, Doc. I, um, just wanted to thank you for helping me an' Kara out back in December, with the whole thing with her knee and all. Always did feel kind of bad about bothering you that night, but she's doin' pretty well now. And that's thanks to you, so I kind of wanted to give you this before you left."

He opened the package and smiled.

"Thank you. It's very sweet." House offered his hand to shake. "I'm glad I could help her. Very glad she's doing well."

Anders smiled and shook House's hand. "So am I. I seriously thought it was gonna end up way worse for her than it did, so I kind of owe you one for that." The smile dimmed a little. "Sorry you're going, Doc."

"Yeah. me too." House smiled sadly. "I've run my course here. it's time to get some new blood in. I'm sure whoever takes over will be an improvement."

"We'll see," replied Anders in a reserved tone. "Sure as hell won't be the same, I know that."

House clasped his shoulder. "Thanks. Really. It means a lot. I didn't realise so many people, you know. Cared." He shook his head sadly. He had always thought himself just the school doctor. He wasn't anything special.
