Clinic Hours - Wednesday November 2nd 2005

The Clinic was opened, perhaps a little late as someone had been out stalking coffee from The Perk this morning.

That didn't mean he didn't have a pot of Kona brewing quietly behind him as he sat and worked thoughtfully on a clipboard in his lap.

Sometimes the best way to help was not to push.

Wilson turned and went to the counter pulling together the necessary equipment and double gloving -hey gremlins come on- before returning to the bed. He set about his work, cleaning the initial bite area before applying a simple bandage.

Next up was the blood draw...for what little good it might do to mention, at least the younger doctor was damn useful at this particular procedure. If The Doctor's physiology wasn't too far off from human -and it is worth noting he'd drawn blood from Red and Hank McCoy as well- he should be able to finish this up with one quick stick.

[The Doctor continues to watch the ceiling. He is tired. So tired. And he can't seem to forget every single thing he had done today. He doesn't wince at the cleaning, at the blood draw. It was as if he didn't want to feel.]

Wilson stood at the counter and made notes in the chart. He was going to have to run the blood tonight...damn, he'd been hoping for a night out of the lab.

Reaching up to rub his hand over his face, he flipped the file closed and picked up the vials, rolling them gently in long fingers.

"Given the nature of your wounding, I'm going to need to ask you to stay here in the Clinic overnight for observation. This will also give me a chance to get your bloodwork completed."

[Ten's eyes are closed now, but he speaks clearly, if quietly.] Let me know if you need any physiological details. I can tell you that you'll probably find higher levels of [he lists several different hormones and general functions].

Nodding, he quietly made notes of everything that The Doctor reeled off on the chart, review the notes thoughtfully.

"Well...as I'll be basically across the hall for a lot of the rest of the night, if any questions come up, I'll poke my head in and ask." There was a gentle sort of smile on his face, warm and given with easy friendliness.

"Which makes it easier for me to check in on you now and again, probably hourly for the next 8 and then bi-hourly after that, just so you know when to expect to see me. Of course, a simply shout will bring me sooner, if you need anything."

Thank you, Dr Wilson. [His tone is sincere, but tired.] You shouldn't lose sleep over me.

Moving around the room to just make sure that The Doctor was as comfortable as possible...blanket, pillow, water jug and cup, directional arrow to the bathroom, Wilson chuckled good naturedly.

"Good lord man, if I get anything more than 20 minutes a night I'm absolutely impossible to live with the next day. Besides, just wait till the scent of Jamacian Blue Mountain starts wafting through the Clinic."

There was another warm smile, though Wilson made no attempt to invade The Doctor's personal space, fearing that would spook the man all over again.

"Need or want anything now, before I take myself off so you can get some rest?"

Tapping the file with a slender finger, Wilson did a quick inventory of his own reading material and quickly dismissed most of it, oncology journals were barely of interest to oncology specialists after all. But then, he snapped his fingers and grinned.

"I think, I might have just the thing."

Disappearing for a few minutes, he returned with a hardback book and a soft cover magazine looking item.

"Here is a crossword puzzle book. I haven't started to work it yet so you can toy with it if you like. But this, might be more what you mean."

Wilson's grin took on a bit of impishness as he held up the hardback for The Doctor to read the title The Dark Water (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/009941662X/102-9509313-8556956?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance).

"It's House's but he won't mind if you borrow it. I'm afraid my only other offers would be dry and depressing."

[He looks over the book, flipping it to the other side in order to look at the synopsis.] This will be fine, thanks. Thank you again, Dr Wilson. [Closing his eyes, he indicates the conversation is over.]

Yep, years of dealing with House had taught Wilson the subtle art of reading 'Go away now' signs and he retreated from the room, closing the door behind him.
