Unlike a most of her previous visits back home, Libby had found it actually a little bit difficult to return back to the island after this last one. It seemed as though some of the tension had faded a little, with the passage of time, and the realization that things had, fundamentally, changed, for all of them. Just and Patience were still very cold toward her, and she still hadn't seen her father, though they did talk, briefly, on the phone. But it had done her heart good to spend so much time with the Littles, especially baby Hope, who was barely even a baby anymore, really, and her mother, and her grandma Jean, and Zo. Always Zo...

So it was a pretty thoughtful, introspective, maybe even a little broody Libby who returned to her clinic shifts that week, although of course she was excited to come back to the island, too. And to catch up with all the nurses and with Stabby about how the Christmas break had been for them, and how Stabby's resolution to be more crabby had been going.

"Also," a nurse added, "he's picked up smoking again."

"Don't most people try to use New Years resolutions as a way to quit smoking?" Libby wondered.

But the nurse just shook her head. "I know," she said, "you haven't been away so long that you've forgotten that you can't apply logic to Stabby."

Which....you know what? Was a fair point, and Libby was just going to very pointedly pull up some research on the adverse affects of smoking and share anything particularly interesting she just so happened to find with her dear friend Stabby.

The Clinic is open!

Where Libby is also wondering if printing out a "NO SMOKING" sign to put in Stabby's tank would be effective, or just make him rebel even more.

"Good morning Libby," Kurt said with a small smile as he walked into the clinic later. "How have you been? I haven't seen ya since last year!" Was the grin on his face because he had been waiting a while to drop that little joke? Partly. But it was also always good to see Libby. "Happy New Year" Kurt grinned.

Honestly, though, the time away had seemed long enough to have almost been a year, really.

"Happy New Year, Kurt," she said, grinning back, beaming over how good it was to see him again. Sure, sure, they'd had plenty of opportunity to call and facetime over the break, but that just couldn't even compare to being there in person.

She took a moment to sort of bask in that before she went to roll her chair back to grab the other one and bring it up to the desk for him.

She patted the seat a little. "Come join me? Help me give Stabby disapproving looks for his new smoking habit?"

"Ooof Stabby, thats not being a very good role model" Kurt said shaking his head as he looked at Standby's tank. "And of course, Id love to sit, got the day free!"

Kurt took the offered chair as was their tradition and smiled at Libby. It had been good facetiming over new years, and the chat to do their own little countdown, but nothing beat real face time!

"Did you have a good time since we last chatte" he asked giving libby a smile.

"All that way back to last year?" Libby ribbed back, because, hey, if he got to make that silly joke, then so did she! But her smile dimmed just a touch as she admitted, "It was really hard to say good-bye to everyone this time, but I'm still glad I got the chance to be there. Who knows when the next chance is going to happen..."

It was her last semester,she'd be graduating, and then probably right off to the next school, and she still didn't even know yet where that was going to be...

"How about you? Feel good to be back?"

"It was good getting to see everyone. Folks are doing good and the team is as crazy as ever" Kurt said with a fond grin. "It was hard leaving but it's good to be back in Fandom all the same. Especially since I get to see you again" he added with a grin.

Libby smiled back, having to duck her head a little as if that could do much to hide the blush springing to her cheeks, and she took a moment to tuck her hair behind one of her ears before looking back up at Kurt again. "It is really nice to see you again, too," she said. "Facetime doesn't count, it's not the same. If anything..." Definitely no hiding that blush now! Although she was also reaching out a hand for Kurt's, since that was absolutely something they couldn't do over the phone. "It just made me miss you even more."

Kurt's smile grew even bigger at that and he held Libby's hand and gave it a little squeeze. The familiar warmth of an unseen flush spread over his face. "Aye, Facetime is a very weak substitution to getting to see you like this, just makes it all the more painfully obvious we aren't together" he said softly. "Any time is good but nothing beats this."

Which meant that it was probably going to especially hard, once she did graduate, but Libby still had several months before she had to worry about that. No point in casting a dark cloud over sunny fields if you didn't have to.

She gave Kurt's hand a little squeeze back.

"Have you had a chance yet," she wondered, "to sing up for your classes or get your schedule?"

It would be a big adjustment that was for sure.... when the time came anyway.

"Yeah I think I got my classes picked out finally" Kurt said with a nod. "I'm taking the Paleobiology class and the creative writing class. I might grab one more but we'll see. What about you, Libby? Which classes are you taking?"

Libby might also be tempted to spend a little time with a nurse looking over her suddenly TERRIBLE cough for SOME REASON....

Look, she'd just spent a few weeks back home, the passive aggression could be contagious.
